Why the Module 170?

Because a rack you can adapt later stays useful longer. The Stax 2G is a modular construction: a Base Module at the bottom, with levels in four heights on top. The 170 hits the most common build height in HiFi – integrated amplifiers, CD players, network players, slim turntables. When a new component arrives, you swap or add a level instead of replacing the whole piece of furniture.

What you get

A shelf made of 10 mm thick, tinted and tempered glass on four gloss black supports, connected invisibly with four M10 screws. Silicone isolation pads decouple every level from the one below; the supports can each be filled with about 2.2 litres of dry sand – the cheapest sound upgrade you'll ever buy. The level is rated for 40 kg. At 8.9 kg, the glass module weighs noticeably more than the plywood versions, which helps the build rather than hurting it.

Who is the Module 170 for?

For anyone expanding or newly planning their Stax 2G in Black Glass. Straight talk: the Module 170 only works on a Base Module – feet, spikes and tools are in that box. If you're generally not a fan of glass because every speck of dust shows, ash is the better choice. For components taller than 17 centimetres, the Module 220 is the one to use, and the Module LP for your record collection. And according to Blok, the stack shouldn't exceed 1100 mm.

Black Glass is the finish for people who want to put their system on display, and the Module 170 is the standard level within it: fits almost anything, stays adaptable later. The Stax 2G system was honoured by the EISA with the "AV Furniture 2024-2025" award – racks rarely win prizes, but this one did. What component height fits under the Module 170?

Up to 170 millimetres, measured from the glass shelf to the underside of the next level. For components that give off heat, leave a little margin for ventilation, and factor in the space that thick power or speaker cables need behind the component.

Is the black glass sturdy enough for heavy components?

Yes. Blok rates every level at 40 kilograms of load capacity, regardless of whether the shelf is glass or plywood. It uses 10 millimetre thick, tempered glass. That's plenty for power amps, integrated amplifiers and heavy turntables. The level itself weighs 8.9 kilograms.

What's included with the module?

Four M10 screws, which connect the level invisibly to the module below. Height-adjustable feet with spikes, the Blok assembly tool and the setup instructions come with the Base Module, not with the individual build-up levels. Without a Base Module, the Module 170 can't be set up.

Can I mix black glass and wood modules?

Technically yes, the footprint and screw fixing are the same across all finishes. Visually it rarely looks coherent, so most people stick to one variant. Within the series, the 120, 170, 220 and LP heights can be freely stacked, up to a maximum total height of 1100 millimetres.
