The Blok Stax 2G Base Module in black glass is the foundation of the modular Stax 2G rack system: a level of tempered black glass on height-adjustable feet, onto which every build-up module is placed.

Why the Base Module in black glass?

The Base is the only module in the Stax 2G system that contacts the floor. It carries the four height-adjustable feet, which you fit with either spikes (22 mm) for carpet or hard-floor pads (14 mm) for parquet, laminate, and stone, and it thereby compensates for a floor that isn't too precise about being level. On top, you keep building freely: 120, 170, and 220 mm for electronics, the LP module for records – up to the recommended total height of 1100 mm.

What you get

A level of 10 mm tempered black glass with 480 × 387 mm of usable surface, slightly more than the plywood variants thanks to the thinner panel. It's carried by hollow side supports with silicone isolation pads, whose Shore hardness was defined by the Monitor Audio Group's acoustic development team. Through removable rubber plugs, you can fill around 0.7 litres of inert material per support. At 7.9 kg, this variant is almost twice as heavy as the wood finishes – mass that a rack rarely resents. The level is rated for 40 kg.

Who is the Base Module suitable for?

For anyone who wants a visible rack and configures their own system instead of taking a ready-made combination. Straight talk: gloss and glass are honest about dust and fingerprints – if you're not going to reach for a microfibre cloth now and then, you'll be happier with one of the two wood finishes. And as with every Base: on its own, it's a single level, not a rack. The height only comes about with the build-up modules.

Which build-up modules fit the Base Module in black glass?

All Stax 2G build-up modules in the same finish: 120, 170, and 220 mm for electronics, plus the LP module for records. They're placed on top in any order and screwed together. Blok recommends stopping at a total height of 1100 mm – that keeps the tower standing safely.

Why does the glass variant weigh more than the wood finishes?

Because tempered glass is simply denser than plywood. The Base Module in black glass tips the scale at 7.9 kg, the plywood variants at 4.2 to 4.3 kg. That doesn't change the load capacity: both materials are rated at 40 kg per level.

Does a glass level sound different from a wood level?

Blok selected both materials for load-bearing capacity and acoustic behaviour; the manufacturer doesn't quote reliable measurements for a difference. In practice, what matters more is that the level sits decoupled and the supports are damped. So deciding by looks here is entirely legitimate.

How do I care for glass and gloss?

With a soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth and no abrasive agents. High-gloss lacquer and tinted glass show dust and fingerprints more clearly than matte wood – but they're clean again in seconds. Devices with sharp-edged feet are better placed on felt pads.
