The Audio Analogue Donizetti Anniversary is an analogue stereo power amplifier in dual-mono construction, delivering 250 watts into 8 ohms and bridgeable to mono operation. Two separate toroidal transformers of 1200 VA each and a total weight of 41.2 kilograms make it fairly unmistakably clear what this is about: reserves you don't constantly need, but notice at the decisive moment.

Why the Donizetti Anniversary?

Because power here isn't an end in itself, it's control. 250 W at 8 Ω, 500 W at 4 Ω and 950 W at 2 Ω mean the power amp doesn't buckle even when a speaker's impedance curve turns nasty. The output impedance of 0.15 Ω delivers a firm grip on the bass driver, and the signal-to-noise ratio of over 110 dB gives a background against which fine details can even become visible in the first place. It's built without global negative feedback — the circuit is meant to be right from the start, rather than corrected afterwards.

What you hear

Composure. The most striking effect of a truly commanding power amp is that loud passages no longer sound louder, they sound bigger. Transients come and go without anything wobbling afterwards; the piano stays a piano right down to the fundamental. The structure stays intact at low volumes too — a point you need far more often in practice than full power.

Who is the Donizetti Anniversary for?

Plainly put: for a small bedroom setup, this power amp is simply the wrong purchase, and without a preamp it doesn't run at all. If you're after a compact solution, you're better served with an integrated amplifier. Its stage is demanding speakers, large rooms and chains that are already built separately — and people who can lift 41 kilos into the rack without overestimating themselves.

Our verdict

The Donizetti Anniversary is one of those power amps that never breaks a sweat, no matter how dense or loud things get. With the path to monoblock operation, it also has an upgrade route you can take later, but don't have to. Whether your speakers genuinely benefit from it, we'll tell you honestly — HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, +41 44 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a preamp for the Donizetti Anniversary?

Yes. The Donizetti is a pure power amplifier with no volume control — it amplifies the finished signal from a preamp. The intended match is the Bellini Anniversary from the same range, connected via RCA or XLR. Which other preamp might suit, we'll work out with you based on input sensitivity and impedance.

What does mono operation mean on the Donizetti Anniversary?

Bridged, both channels of one unit work on a single speaker and together deliver around 1000 W at 8 Ω. For stereo you then need two Donizettis. This brings more power and better channel separation. How mono operation is set up on your unit, we'll clarify beforehand with the distributor.

Does the Donizetti also drive hard-to-power speakers?

That's exactly what it's built for. 950 W at 2 Ω and an output impedance of 0.15 Ω keep even impedance-critical floorstanders under control without the bass turning soft. Tell us your speaker model with its efficiency and minimum impedance, and we'll confirm suitability.

How much space and ventilation does the Donizetti need?

The power amp measures 450 × 221 × 428 mm (W × H × D) and weighs 41.2 kg — a standard rack shelf is often not up to the task. Plan a load-bearing surface, airflow on the sides and above for the heatsinks, and space at the back for the cables. We help with placement at delivery.

Why buy the Donizetti Anniversary from HD Zürisee?

Because that much power only makes sense when preamp, power amp and speakers actually match — and because nobody should carry 41 kilos up the stairs alone. We plan the chain, deliver and install on-site, and our technician Mauri remains your point of contact afterwards. Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp or email.
