The NAD C3050 is a stereo integrated amplifier with DAC in retro design, combining 2× 100 watts, an MM phono input and an MDC2 expansion slot under illuminated VU meters.

The face of the seventies, the substance of today – and the option to turn it into a streamer later with a single move.

Why the NAD C3050?

Because it's a full-blooded, powerful amplifier that looks like a classic and grows with you. The HybridDigital UcD power stage delivers a genuine 2× 100 watts, the PCM5242 DAC takes in digital sources cleanly, and the MDC2 slot keeps the door open to BluOS streaming and Dirac. Add the illuminated VU meters – technology to look at, not just to listen to.

What you get

The C3050 connects everything that matters: MM phono for the turntable, optical and coaxial digital inputs, HDMI eARC for the TV with volume via the TV remote, and two-way Bluetooth aptX HD. Via pre-out/main-in you add a power amp or subwoofer, plus a headphone output, 12V trigger and IR. The MDC2 slot accepts the optional BluOS-D module for streaming, Dirac and AirPlay 2.

Who is the NAD C3050 suited for – and who isn't it for?

Made for anyone who loves retro looks but wants genuine power and room to grow. 100 watts drives even more demanding speakers in medium-sized rooms. Straight talk: if you need built-in streaming from day one, plan the C3050 straight away with the BluOS module, or go for the C3030S instead. And if you're only filling a small room, the more compact C3030 also does the job well.

Our verdict

The C3050 is the most coherent retro statement in the NAD range: beautiful, powerful and future-proof thanks to MDC2. An amplifier you buy today and won't regret in years – because it grows with your needs.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the NAD C3030 and C3050?

The C3050 is the larger version: 2× 100 watts instead of 2× 50, a higher-quality PCM5242 DAC, pre-out/main-in and the MDC2 slot for later BluOS streaming. The C3030 is more compact and more affordable and has no expansion slot. If you want more power and future headroom, get the C3050.

Does the NAD C3050 need a streaming subscription?

No. The C3050 also plays without a subscription: TV via HDMI eARC, turntable via phono, CD player or console digitally, plus Bluetooth from your smartphone. With the optional MDC2 BluOS module, internet radio and streaming services like Qobuz or Tidal are added – as an option, not a requirement.

Can I upgrade the NAD C3050 to a streamer later?

Yes. The C3050 has an MDC2 module slot. With the optional BluOS-D module it becomes a full-blooded network streamer with Dirac room correction, AirPlay 2 and two-way Bluetooth. So you buy the amplifier today and expand it once you actually need streaming.

How much power does the NAD C3050 have?

The C3050 delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 and 4 ohms continuous power, briefly up to 135 watts. That confidently drives bookshelf and floorstanding speakers alike in small to medium-sized rooms and stays in control of the bass even at higher levels.

Why buy the NAD C3050 at HD Zürisee?
