Gato Audio AMP-150 AE Integrated Amplifier, Black High Gloss

The Gato Audio AMP-150 AE is an integrated stereo amplifier from Denmark that delivers 2× 150 watts at 8 ohms while deliberately adding no colouration of its own.

The black high-gloss front is intentionally unadorned: a small display, a large volume knob, done. All the effort goes into the inside – and into the power supply, which holds the reserves ready for when a track suddenly turns loud.

What you hear

An open, unhurried sound with firm control in the bass and plenty of calm between the notes. At room volume the AMP-150 AE stays just as composed as at levels where the neighbours start asking questions. A balanced XLR input and four RCA pairs take in whatever sources you have; the preamp outputs on XLR and RCA let you add a further power amp or an active subwoofer later on.

Who is the AMP-150 AE suited to – and who isn't it for?

Straight talk: it's for anyone who wants a neutral, powerful analog integrated amplifier as the heart of their system and prefers to choose their own sources. If you'd rather have streaming and a D/A converter built in, the Gato DIA-250S NPM or DIA-400S NPM is the better choice – the AMP-150 AE has neither a network module nor a DAC. Headphone fans are also out of luck: there's no headphone jack. And if you expect a front panel full of lights, you'll be disappointed. That's by design.

What finishes is the AMP-150 AE available in?

In black high gloss, white high gloss and walnut high gloss. There's also the custom colour option: Gato will paint the housing in almost any high-gloss shade on request. Technically all finishes are identical – it's purely about how it looks in your room. That way the amplifier suits light furniture as well as dark.

Does the AMP-150 AE have a built-in DAC or streaming?

No, the AMP-150 AE is a purely analog integrated amplifier with no D/A converter and no network module. Digital sources therefore need a separate DAC or streamer in front of it. If you'd rather have both built in, the Gato DIA-250S NPM and DIA-400S NPM are the matching models from the same maker.

Can I connect headphones to the AMP-150 AE?

No, the AMP-150 AE has no headphone output. It's consistently designed for driving speakers. For headphones, you connect a separate headphone amplifier to the preamp output, via XLR or RCA. We're happy to help you find the combination that suits your headphones.
