Dynavox VC80 Record Clamp, Aluminium

The Dynavox VC80 is an aluminium record clamp that secures your LP to the platter spindle with a clamping mechanism, instead of weighing it down.
The difference sounds like splitting hairs, but it isn't. A classic stabiliser can quickly add half a kilo to your platter bearing. The VC80 weighs under 80 grams and still presses the record firmly onto the platter – because it relies on mechanics, not mass. Anodised aluminium on top, polyoxymethylene underneath, the material precision engineering turns into its finest parts.
Why a clamp instead of a weight?
Because not every turntable can take extra ballast. Sprung subchassis designs are calibrated for a specific weight; put a heavy record weight on top and the suspension sags, dragging the carefully set-up geometry with it. Your platter bearing and motor will also thank you for not having to carry extra mass around indefinitely.
What you get
A slightly warped record sits flat again with the VC80, and flat vinyl means a constant tracking angle and a calmer stylus. At the same time, the clamp couples the record more tightly to the platter, channelling part of the resonances to where they belong. It's operated in two seconds with one hand.
Who is the VC80 suited for?
Ideal for anyone with a sprung subchassis turntable, and for anyone whose collection includes a few slightly warped records. Plain talk: the VC80 needs a bit of "meat" on the platter spindle to grip – on turntables with a very short spindle stub, it simply won't work. Check that beforehand. If you want to press a heavily warped record flat, you'll also be disappointed: this is a clamp, not an ironing press.
Our verdict
The VC80 is one of the few affordable accessories where you understand exactly what you're paying for: clean mechanics instead of heavy metal wrapped in marketing. If your turntable has the spindle stub for it, it's the more sensible solution than any stabiliser.

Frequently Asked Questions
Clamp or weight – which suits my turntable?
For sprung subchassis turntables, the clamp is usually the better choice. It presses the record down without throwing the suspension off balance with extra mass. A heavy record weight can shift the setup there and load the platter bearing. On solid, rigidly mounted platters, both approaches work well.
Does the VC80 fit every turntable?
No, not every one. The clamp grips the spindle stub protruding from the centre of the platter and needs a few millimetres of material for that. If your turntable's spindle barely protrudes above the platter, it won't find any purchase. Measure beforehand or ask us.
Does the platter need to be stationary when clamping?
Yes. Always fit and remove the clamp with the platter stopped. Pressing it on while the platter is turning tilts the spindle and puts unnecessary strain on the platter bearing. Two seconds of patience – and the mechanism lasts for decades.
Does the clamp change the tonearm height?
No. The VC80 presses the record onto the platter instead of lifting it. The record plane stays exactly where it was, and your tonearm keeps its set height angle. So you don't need to readjust VTA or tracking force after buying it.
