The Clearaudio microfibre cover set is the replacement wear part for the suction arm of the Smart Matrix Silent record cleaning machine: two self-adhesive microfibre strips for scratch-free, tight-sealing suction on your records.

Important up front: this set belongs exclusively to the Smart Matrix Silent, the single-sided machine. The two-sided Double Matrix Professional Sonic needs a different set — the two are different machines, and the strips are not interchangeable.

Why fresh covers?

The strips are the only connection between the hard suction arm and the vinyl. Only a fresh strip seals the suction slot properly and draws the fluid, along with the loosened dirt, completely out of the groove. At the same time, the soft microfibre forms the protective layer that prevents fine contact scratches. Once the fibres are flattened, suction turns into an expensive way of just pushing dirt around.

How do I fit the new strips?

Peel off the old strips, remove any adhesive residue completely with a little cleaning alcohol, let the suction arm dry, stick on the new strips and press firmly. If the surface is genuinely clean and free of grease, they'll hold reliably — otherwise they'll come loose mid-wash.
