Clearaudio Pure Groove Essence Cleaning Concentrate

Clearaudio Pure Groove Essence is a highly economical cleaning concentrate for vinyl records, from which you mix the finished Pure Groove fluid yourself using high-proof alcohol.

The principle is simple: Clearaudio supplies the active part, you source the alcohol locally. That saves on shipping weight, avoids the hazardous-goods restrictions of the ready-mixed version – and in the end you have exactly the same fluid in the tank.

Why Pure Groove Essence?

Because it's the most economical way to get Pure Groove if you wash a lot. From 0.35 litres of Essence plus 0.15 litres of alcohol you get 0.5 litres of cleaning fluid; from 1.75 litres plus 0.75 litres you get 2.5 litres. You only ever mix as much as you currently need.

What you get

After mixing, exactly the properties of Pure Groove: highly effective right down to the bottom of the groove, antistatic, drying residue-free. The only difference is in the measuring cup, not in the groove.

Who is Pure Groove Essence for?

For frequent washers, archives, and anyone systematically working through a larger collection. Straight talk, and this is the most important sentence on this page: the Essence is mixed with 90% denatured ethanol or 90% isopropyl alcohol, not with water. The alcohol is not included in delivery. Anyone who finds that too much hassle should take the ready-made Pure Groove instead. And like Pure Groove, the Essence is strictly a vinyl matter – it's off-limits for shellac records (78s).

Frequently asked questions

What do I mix Pure Groove Essence with?

With high-proof alcohol, not water. Clearaudio specifies 90% denatured ethanol or 90% isopropyl alcohol. For every 0.35 litres of Essence you add 0.15 litres of alcohol, which gives 0.5 litres of finished fluid. The alcohol isn't included in delivery and must be sourced separately.

How much finished cleaning fluid does one bottle make?

0.35 litres of Essence makes 0.5 litres, 0.7 litres makes 1.0 litre, and 1.75 litres makes 2.5 litres of ready-to-use Pure Groove fluid. It's best to only mix as much as you'll use in the foreseeable future – freshly mixed, the fluid works most reliably.

Is the mixed fluid the same as Pure Groove?

Yes. According to Clearaudio, correctly mixing it gives you exactly the familiar Pure Groove fluid – same cleaning power, same antistatic properties, same suitability for record cleaning machines. The Essence exists mainly because a concentrate can be shipped internationally without hazardous-goods restrictions.

Can I use the Essence for shellac records?

No. Once mixed, it is Pure Groove and therefore alcohol-based – shellac made of natural resin is attacked by such vinyl cleaners. For 78s you need a fluid explicitly approved for them, like Clearaudio Pure Groove Shellac. With an old collection, this is one rule really worth taking seriously.
