The Vincent CD-200 is a compact CD player with a tube output stage: two 6N1 tubes refine the converted signal before it reaches the amplifier. At 21 centimetres wide, it's the perfect partner for the small Vincent series – and one of the few ways to get tube sound from a silver disc without sacrificing half a rack.

Why the CD-200?

The CD isn't dead, it's just gotten quieter. If you've got a grown collection sitting on the shelf, you don't need a subscription, you need a transport that takes it seriously. That's exactly what the CD-200 is: the proven Sanyo DA11 transport reliably reads even scratched discs, a Burr-Brown PCM1796 converter handles the digital-to-analogue work cleanly – and then two 6N1 tubes take the last edge off the signal. The result is a sound that doesn't tire you out, even after the third disc of the evening.

What you get

Analogue output goes to the amplifier via a stereo RCA output. Digitally, coaxial and optical are on hand – so the CD-200 also works as a pure transport into an external DAC, should you upgrade later. There's also a dedicated headphone output (6.3 mm) up front that drives even higher-impedance headphones. A remote control is included – the same one also operates the SV-200. No network, no app, no account: insert, hit play, done.

Who is the CD-200 suited for – and who isn't it for?

Honestly: if you're after SACD, hi-res streaming or a ripper, you're in the wrong place – the CD-200 plays CDs, nothing else. But if you're building a compact system, have no room in the rack for 43-centimetre components, and like the warm tube character, you'll find surprisingly good value for money here.

Our verdict

An unassuming specialist that does one thing right. In silver, it especially likes standing next to a same-coloured Vincent integrated amplifier from the small series – that makes for a compact system with grown-up sound. Whether that suits your speakers is something we're happy to clarify: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00 or WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls).

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the tubes add to a CD player?

The two 6N1s sit in the analogue output stage, so after the D/A conversion. They smooth out the hard edges that many listeners perceive as digital harshness and give vocals a bit more body. The effect is clearly audible but not overbearing – the recording stays the recording.

Can I use the CD-200 as a pure transport?

Yes. Via the coaxial or optical digital output, you send the signal to an external DAC and bypass the internal conversion, tubes included. Handy if you add a separate converter later and want to keep the transport.

Can I plug headphones in directly?

Yes, there's a 6.3 mm headphone output up front with its own volume control. It delivers 160 mW at 300 ohms, driving even higher-impedance models properly. Great for quiet evening listening without even switching on the amplifier.

Does the CD-200 suit my existing amplifier?

It pairs with any amplifier that has a free RCA line-level input, so practically anywhere. Visually and sonically it harmonises especially well with the small Vincent series, because size and sound character are matched to each other. Tell us your device and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits.

Why buy the Vincent CD-200 from HD Zürisee?

Because we tell you upfront whether a CD player is even the right upgrade for your chain – or whether your money would go further elsewhere. We listen to devices ourselves before we put them on the shelf, and we stay reachable after the purchase. Call us, write to us, or drop by in Wädenswil.

Goes well with

The Vincent Collection is a good match, along with other CD Players, a D/A Converter for later – and of course Speakers to make it all audible.
