Was ist AES/EBU und wann brauche ich es?

AES/EBU ist die symmetrische Digitalverbindung über XLR mit 110 Ohm Wellenwiderstand. Du brauchst sie, wenn Laufwerk und Wandler entsprechende XLR-Digitalbuchsen mitbringen, typischerweise bei getrennten Laufwerk-Wandler-Kombinationen im gehobenen Segment. Hat dein Gerät nur einen koaxialen Digitalausgang, ist stattdessen das NF-75 die richtige Wahl.

In welcher Länge gibt es das NF-S2?

In 250 Zentimetern, fertig konfektioniert mit massiven T8-XLR-Steckern. Das reicht für die üblichen Rack-Situationen und auch dann, wenn Laufwerk und Wandler nicht direkt übereinanderstehen. Eine andere Länge führen wir hier nicht – brauchst du eine Sonderlänge, frag kurz nach, dann prüfen wir das.

Ist AES/EBU besser als Koax?

Nicht pauschal. Die symmetrische Übertragung ist störfester, vor allem über längere Strecken und in elektrisch unruhiger Umgebung. Bei kurzen Wegen im selben Rack nehmen sich beide Verbindungen wenig. Entscheidend ist meist schlicht, welche Buchsen deine Geräte anbieten – nicht das Format an sich.

Kann ich ein normales XLR-Mikrofonkabel verwenden?

Davon raten wir ab. Mikrofonkabel sind nicht auf 110 Ohm ausgelegt; bei hochfrequenten Digitalsignalen führt das zu Reflexionen und im ungünstigen Fall zu Aussetzern. Der Stecker passt zwar, die Leitung ist aber für eine andere Aufgabe gebaut. Für AES/EBU nimmst du ein dafür spezifiziertes Kabel.

What is AES/EBU and when do I need it?

AES/EBU is the balanced digital connection over XLR with 110 ohms impedance. You need it if your transport and DAC have matching XLR digital sockets, typically with separate transport-DAC combinations in the upper segment. If your device only has a coaxial digital output, the NF-75 is the right choice instead.

What length is the NF-S2 available in?

Is AES/EBU better than coaxial?

Not categorically. Balanced transmission is more resistant to interference, especially over longer distances and in electrically noisy environments. Over short runs within the same rack, both connections offer little difference. Usually the deciding factor is simply which sockets your devices provide – not the format itself.

Can I use a normal XLR microphone cable?

We'd advise against it. Microphone cables aren't designed for 110 ohms; with high-frequency digital signals, that leads to reflections and, in unfavourable cases, dropouts. The connector fits, but the line is built for a different job. For AES/EBU, use a cable specified for it.
