The Technics SU-R1000 is a digital stereo integrated amplifier in the Reference Class that combines digital sources, balanced XLR and line inputs, and an automatically calibrated phono stage all in one unit.
It's Technics' uncompromising answer to how far a fully digital amplifier can be pushed – and the answer is impressive.
Why the SU-R1000?
Because it bridges two worlds that rarely coexist under one roof: cutting-edge digital technology and serious vinyl playback. The JENO Engine eliminates jitter for a time-accurate, calm sound, while the extremely fast GaN-FET (Gallium Nitride) power amp handles even demanding speakers with ease. LAPC measures your speakers' phase and amplitude response and corrects them. But the real trick is in the phono stage: the ADCT equalizer (Accurate Dynamic Control for Cartridge) measures your cartridge and automatically corrects frequency response and crosstalk – a trick that hardly any other amplifier can pull off in this form.
What you'll hear
Control. The R1000 traces transients lightning-fast and separates instruments cleanly, without ever sounding frantic. The bass is dry and authoritative, the soundstage precisely placed in the room. On a well set-up turntable, the ADCT phono stage brings even ageing moving-coil cartridges to bloom, as if freshly aligned. Anyone who's spent a while in hi-fi will recognize it immediately: here, someone is working at reference level.
Who is the SU-R1000 for? (and who it isn't – straight talk)
Honestly: the R1000 is for anyone who wants the best of digital sources and of vinyl in a single unit, and is willing to invest in the reference class for it. What you should know: it doesn't have a built-in network streamer – you feed network music in via a separate streamer or the USB input. If you're after a plain, affordable all-in-one solution, this is deliberately more than you need; a size down will do. For everyone else, it's a purchase for the next decade.
Our verdict
The SU-R1000 is an exceptional amplifier: technically bold, sonically mature, and in a class of its own on the subject of phono. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we listen closely to which speakers and which turntable bring out its full potential – and set the whole thing up so it's right from day one. The trade press sees it similarly:

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the SU-R1000 stream on its own?
No, the R1000 doesn't have a built-in network streamer. You connect digital sources via the optical, coaxial or USB-B input, for example a separate streamer or music server. It's exactly this separation that lets you choose each component specifically at reference level.
Which cartridges does the phono input support?
Both MM and MC systems. The special feature is the ADCT equalizer: it measures your specific cartridge's frequency response and crosstalk and corrects them automatically. This lets the R1000 draw a surprisingly clean, balanced playback even from older or characterful cartridges.
Does the R1000 drive demanding speakers too?
Yes. With 2× 150 W at 8 Ω and the fast GaN-FET power amp, it confidently controls most floorstanding speakers and stays in control even in the bass. For very low-impedance or low-efficiency speakers, we're happy to advise whether and how it's a good fit.
What's the included microphone for?
For calibration. LAPC uses it to measure your speakers and adjust the amp accordingly, and ADCT uses it for cartridge correction. So you don't need any extra accessories – everything necessary is included, and we're happy to include the calibration as part of the installation if you'd like.
Why buy the SU-R1000 at HD Zürisee?
Because a reference amplifier deserves a system that matches it – and advice that goes beyond the sale. We've been at home in high-end audio at Lake Zurich for nearly three decades, and we tune speakers, turntables and cabling to match the R1000. Our technician Mauri handles delivery, installation and fine calibration on site.
Goes well with
The R1000 deserves serious partners: high-quality floorstanding speakers, a precise turntable with the right cartridge for the ADCT phono stage, and decent speaker cable. For network streaming, you'll add a separate streamer.
