The Technics SU-GX70 is a digital network integrated amplifier that combines streaming, a DAC, phono preamp and HDMI ARC in one slim chassis.

In short: a complete hi-fi hub that takes care of your music and your TV sound – without two equipment towers fighting for space side by side.

Why the SU-GX70?

It solves the living-room dilemma that trips up so many people: the TV sounds like a tin can, but nobody wants to install a bulky AV receiver to fix that. The GX70 takes in TV sound via HDMI ARC, streams everything from Spotify to Tidal in high-res over the network, and still has a phono input for your turntable. The JENO Engine, Technics' digital signal processing, keeps jitter low; LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration) measures your speakers and adapts the power stage accordingly. The whole thing is slimmer than some soundbars – and plays in a different league.

What you hear

A sound that is fast, clean and controlled. LAPC delivers a bass that stands firm instead of booming; the highs stay clear without becoming fatiguing. With Space Tune you correct your room's quirks via the app – whether the GX70 stands freely or is squeezed into a shelf. Streaming runs up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD, plus AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth. And if you don't like subscriptions: internet radio, network files and the turntable sound just as good, entirely without a monthly fee.

Who is the SU-GX70 suited for? (and who it isn't – plain talk)

Plain talk: If you're after a space-saving all-in-one hub for music and TV, modern and free of cable clutter, this is exactly right. If, on the other hand, you expect the warm, softened vintage sound of old tubes, you're in the wrong place – the GX70 is a digital amplifier: honest and precise, a weak recording stays audibly weak. And if you want to drive large, power-hungry floorstanding speakers in a big room, you're better off with a class higher in power.

Our verdict

The SU-GX70 is one of the smartest all-rounders in its price class: a full-fledged hi-fi amplifier, a modern streamer and the sound hub for home cinema, all in one. For living rooms on Lake Zurich where one device is meant to do it all, it's often exactly the answer. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we tune it with you to your room and your speakers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hear TV sound through the SU-GX70?
Yes. Via HDMI ARC the GX70 takes the sound directly from the TV, and you control the volume with the TV remote. When you switch on the TV, the amplifier automatically wakes up with it – the convenience we most like to recommend for modern living-room setups.

Do I need a special microphone for room calibration?
No. Space Tune uses your smartphone's microphone and the Technics Audio Center app. The system plays test tones and corrects your room's acoustics – whether the device stands freely or sits in a shelf. You don't need to buy an extra microphone.

Does the GX70 also work without a streaming subscription?
Yes. Internet radio, music from network storage, the turntable on the phono input and TV sound all run entirely without a paid subscription. Streaming services like Tidal or Spotify are an option, not a requirement – you decide what you use.

Does the SU-GX70 suit my speakers?
It suits the vast majority of bookshelf and compact floorstanding speakers excellently, and is even especially well matched thanks to LAPC. For very large or impedance-critical speakers, a quick conversation is worthwhile. That's exactly what we're here for: write or call us, and we'll sort it out for your room.

Why buy the SU-GX70 at HD Zürisee?
Because with us you get more than a box. We've been setting up hi-fi systems since the late nineties and know which combinations really bring joy in everyday use. Our technician Mauri handles delivery, installation and service, and we advise you honestly on room, speakers and operation – even after the purchase.
