The Bluesound Powernode EDGE is a compact streaming integrated amplifier that bundles a network player, DAC, preamp and power amplifier into one slim enclosure.

In white, it sets a light, understated accent and turns two passive speakers into a fully-fledged, networked music system. Honestly: it's hard to pack more hi-fi into less floor space. Connect the speakers, put the BluOS app on your phone – and the whole streamer-DAC-amplifier stack shrinks to one device that's barely noticeable behind the speakers.

Why the Powernode EDGE?

The EDGE is the space-saving entry point into the Bluesound world. 2 × 40 watts at 8 ohms is sized just right for small to medium rooms, and BluOS gives you access to Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, internet radio and network files. A paid service is entirely optional: internet radio and your own music collection play at no ongoing cost. Multiroom is already built in – add a second Bluesound and both rooms run in sync.

Via HDMI eARC, TV sound runs cleanly through your stereo speakers. An elegant way to politely tell the soundbar 'no, thanks'.

What you get

Hi-res up to 24-bit/192 kHz including MQA and DSD256, Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD in both directions, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Roon Ready. You add a subwoofer via RCA or wirelessly via the PULSE SUB+. It's controlled via the capacitive touch panel or the app.

If the bass in your room isn't quite even, the EDGE is ready for Dirac Live room correction – you can add the software and measurement microphone as an option if you want. The EDGE runs fanless and stays pleasantly cool: no hiss, just music.

Who's the Powernode EDGE for – and who isn't it for?

Fits if you want to get started compact, wireless and multiroom-capable, running bookshelf to medium floor-standing speakers.

Straight talk: less suited to big, power-hungry speakers at high levels in large rooms – there, the Powernode N331 with 2 × 100 watts is the more honest recommendation. Vinyl fans take note: there's no phono input, a turntable needs a separate phono preamp. And if you want to plug headphones into the unit, you won't find a socket – here it's wireless only.

Our verdict

The Powernode EDGE in white is the understated complete solution for anyone who wants sound and hates cable clutter. Slim, networked and surprisingly mature in tone. Which speakers match it visually and sonically is something you'll work out together with the team at HD Zürisee – in Wädenswil, by phone or WhatsApp.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much power does the Powernode EDGE have?

The EDGE delivers 2 × 40 watts at 8 ohms from a DirectDigital power stage, up to 80 watts at 4 ohms dynamically. That's enough for bookshelf and compact floor-standing speakers in small to medium rooms. If you need more headroom for big speakers, the Powernode N331 with 2 × 100 watts is the better fit.

Does the EDGE work without a streaming subscription?

Yes. A paid subscription isn't a requirement. You can use internet radio, files from network storage, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 at no ongoing cost. Services like Spotify or Qobuz can be added at any time if you want.

Can I use wireless headphones with the EDGE?

Yes. The EDGE actively transmits to wireless headphones via Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD, so it doesn't just receive. It has no wired headphone output – headphones run exclusively via Bluetooth. In practice, that's more than enough for quiet evenings.

Can the EDGE measure my room?

Yes, the EDGE is Dirac Live Ready and thus prepared for room correction. Software licence and measurement microphone are available as an option if you want to adapt the bass and sound to your room. Without calibration, it naturally plays with full functionality.

Why buy the Powernode EDGE in white from HD Zürisee?

Because for us, advice doesn't end at the sale. In Wädenswil, we'll work out the right speaker match, the setup and the multiroom integration with you – and you can reach us directly whenever a question comes up. Delivery and service included, with our own in-house technician.

Goes well with

Take a look at the bookshelf speakers and floor-standing speakers – that's where the sound gets decided. A subwoofer adds to the foundation, and matching speaker stands and cables round things off. You'll find alternatives under streaming amplifiers.
