The Ruark Audio R3S is a compact all-in-one music system that combines a slot CD player, WLAN streaming, DAB+/FM radio and Bluetooth in a single hand-crafted cabinet.

Why the R3S?

The R3S is the flagship of the compact R Series and the logical evolution of the R3. Inside sits a new processor with revised circuitry for a calmer, clearer and more spacious playback – Ruark calls this "Stereo+". On the outside, the familiar, hand-crafted cabinet with a high-contrast OLED display.

What makes it special: the R3S takes the decision of "streaming or CD or radio" off your hands. Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, Deezer and Tidal run directly over WLAN, Bluetooth 5 handles everything else, DAB+/FM and internet radio cover broadcast, and the built-in slot CD player plays your discs – including self-burned MP3, WMA and AAC discs.

What you hear

Behind the fabric front sit two 75 mm Ruark NS+ drivers, driven by a Class AB amplifier with 30 watts. The result is a surprisingly large, dense stereo sound with real bass foundation from the bass-reflex-tuned cabinet – rather than inflated boom. Bass, treble, loudness and a 3D audio function can all be fine-tuned to taste.

Plain talk: the R3S doesn't replace a full-grown stereo system with large floorstanding speakers – it doesn't try to. But as a standalone system on the sideboard, the kitchen counter or in the bedroom, it plays in a league of its own.

Who is the R3S for?

Ideal if you have genuine hi-fi ambitions but don't want a stack of components and cable clutter – and if design matters to you as much as sound. Perfect for the living room, bedroom (with dual alarm), office or a good kitchen.

Who it's not for: if you want to fill large areas or reach home-cinema levels, separate components and floorstanding speakers serve you better. And if you never touch a CD, the smaller, more affordable R2 MK4 might suit you better as a pure streaming system.

Yes. The R3S has a high-quality slot-loading CD player built in and plays standard audio CDs as well as self-burned discs with MP3, WMA or AAC files.
