The NAD M66 is the Masters series high-end streaming preamp: two symmetrically configured ESS Sabre DACs, BluOS streaming, Dirac Live with Bass Control and an MM/MC phono stage.

The digital and analog command center for an uncompromising system – you pick the power amp to match your taste.

Why the NAD M66?

Because there's no cutting corners at the critical point – signal processing. Two ESS Sabre DACs in a symmetrical configuration suppress jitter and interference so thoroughly that distortion drops to practically unmeasurable levels. Add BluOS for high-res streaming including MQA and – a standout feature – the full version of Dirac Live including Dirac Live Bass Control for bass that really locks in. This is preamp technology at reference level.

What you get

The M66 is the flexible center of your system: digital inputs (2× optical, 2× coaxial), two line inputs, a switchable MM/MC phono stage and HDMI eARC. On the output side you get balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA pre-outs plus two subwoofer outputs with crossover – ideal for connecting any power amp you like, such as the NAD M23 V2. Dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth aptX HD and the MDC2 architecture for future upgrades round it off.

Who is the NAD M66 for – and who isn't it for?

Built for a modular high-end system with a separate power amp, where the preamp's job is to extract the maximum from every source. Bottom line: the M66 doesn't power your speakers itself – without a power amp it stays silent. If you want everything in one chassis, go for the M33 V2. But if you deliberately separate the two and want the best signal processing, this is the reference.

Our verdict

The M66 is the uncompromising command center for serious high end: dual ESS DACs, BluOS, Dirac Live Bass Control and MM/MC phono in one. If you see the preamp as the heart of your system, this is a reference piece.

Frequently asked questions

What is Dirac Live Bass Control on the NAD M66?

Dirac Live Bass Control extends standard room correction with intelligent bass management across multiple subwoofers. It distributes and corrects low-frequency response in the room so that boominess and cancellations disappear and bass becomes even and precise at every listening position. This advanced feature is already built into the M66 – a clear advantage for demanding rooms.
