The Ruark Audio R610 / Sabre R Set is a complete streaming stereo system made up of the R610 music console – a streaming amplifier with 2× 75 W, DAC and MM phono – and a pair of passive Sabre R bookshelf speakers.

The stereo music console of the 1970s, reimagined and delivered complete right away: the R610 brings the electronics and streaming, the Sabre R the sound, both in the same furniture-grade quality and matched to each other. Why the set?

The R610 and Sabre R were developed together. The console's 2× 75 watts match perfectly with the speakers' 6 ohms and 86 dB – enough headroom for powerful, controlled sound in normal living rooms. The Burr-Brown converters in the R610 resolve hi-res material finely, while the Sabre R's damped MDF cabinet keeps resonances low. Visually, the set is all of a piece: matching finishes, matching design language.

Connection-wise, the R610 console covers everything: HDMI ARC/eARC for the TV, MM phono for the turntable, optical, line-in, USB-C and a subwoofer output. Streaming runs via Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2 and Google Cast – and, entirely without a subscription, via internet radio, vinyl, CD (via the R-CD100) or local files.

What you get

Bottom line: for very large, open rooms, the compact Sabre R aren't made – there the larger R810 system or a switch to floorstanding speakers pays off. A source such as a turntable or CD player is added separately as you wish, and speaker stands bring the boxes to ear height for better sound. For most living rooms, though, the set is exactly right.

Who is the set for?

Ideal if you want a finished, beautiful system from a single source without assembling components individually – for the living room, as a TV upgrade, or as a stylish centrepiece for vinyl and streaming. Perfect for small to medium rooms and anyone who cares about design and build quality.

Who it's not for: if you want a single device with sound straight out of the unit, go for the R410 or R810. If you already have speakers, buy just the R610 console. And if you want to fill a large room with deep bass, plan for larger speakers or a subwoofer.
