The Ruark Audio R410 is a high-end all-in-one music system with built-in speakers that combines WLAN streaming, internet/DAB+ radio, TV sound via HDMI and a phono input for turntables in a single cabinet.

A complete stereo system – streamer, amplifier, speakers and DAC – in a box barely bigger than a decent soundbar. The R410 is Ruark's answer to the question of whether you really still need a stack of equipment. Spoiler: no.

Why the R410?

The R410 is the entry model of the 100 Series – and still a fully grown hi-fi system. A fully active Class D power stage with 120 watts total drives two 100 mm NS+ mid/bass drivers and two 20 mm silk-dome tweeters, the same as found in the multi-award-winning MR1. The result is a surprisingly large, room-filling stereo sound from a single cabinet.

Connection-wise, it leaves little to be desired: HDMI ARC/eARC for the TV, an MM phono input for a turntable (no separate preamp needed), USB-C, optical, line-in and a subwoofer output. Streaming runs via Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast – plus internet radio, DAB/DAB+ and FM.

What you hear

Burr-Brown converters at 32-bit/192 kHz, a twin bass-reflex cabinet and adaptive tone control deliver a full, clean sound with real bass foundation – down to 40 Hz in the room. The switchable Stereo+ function widens the soundstage when the R410 stands against a wall. If you want more deep bass, connect an active subwoofer via the subwoofer output, for example the Ruark RS1.

Bottom line: for small to medium rooms, the R410 is a full-fledged stereo system. In very large, open spaces, you're better off with the larger R610 or R810.

Who is the R410 for?

Ideal if you want to move from a classic component system to an elegant single-box system – or are looking for genuinely good hi-fi for the first time, without cable clutter. Perfect for the living room, bedroom, office or as high-quality TV sound via HDMI.

Who it's not for: if you mainly listen to a large CD collection, add the matching R-CD100 (the R410 itself has no drive). And if you expect a dedicated control app: the R410 doesn't have one – it's controlled via the native streaming apps, RotoDial and remote control.

Our verdict

The R410 is one of the most complete all-in-one systems in its class: superbly built, comprehensively equipped, and with a sound that makes you forget its compact size. If a single, beautiful device is meant to replace your whole system, it's right at the top of the list.
