The Rega Planar 6 is an upper-mid-range manual belt-drive turntable with a hand-built RB330 tonearm, an ultra-lightweight Tancast plinth and an external Neo MK2 power supply.

Here in the matte white finish – with a clear glass platter and a clear dust cover. A turntable that doesn't just sound good, but looks genuinely striking in bright living spaces too.

Why the Planar 6?

The heart of the turntable is the ultra-lightweight plinth made from a Tancast-8 foam core sandwiched between two rigid HPL laminates – a material borrowed from aerospace. Less mass means less stored energy and so less coloration. Add to that the double-brace technology between the tonearm base and bearing housing, a double-layer float glass platter, and a hand-matched 24-volt synchronous motor paired with its Neo power supply. Technology from the big Regas, in the mid-range.

What you'll hear

Above all, calm and timing. The Planar 6 separates cleanly, keeps the soundstage stable and lets the music flow. Bass is taut and defined, vocals sit tangibly in the room. It doesn't flatter, it reveals – and that's exactly what keeps you enjoying it in the long run, instead of just impressing you briefly.

Who is the Planar 6 for? (and who it isn't – straight talk)

For anyone looking for a turntable with a future and happy to invest in a good cartridge. The RB330 carries everything from the Nd5 up to the Apheta – you can upgrade later without changing the turntable. The white version is the first choice when the unit also plays a visual role in the living room. Honestly: the Planar 6 comes without a cartridge and without a phono stage. You need to factor in both, or it stays silent. If you want an instant complete package, take a look at the Planar 1 Plus instead.

Our verdict

A turntable that brings the DNA of the reference models into an affordable class – and in white, one of the few high-end devices you don't have to hide away. Once you've heard a properly set-up P6, you understand why Rega has followed the same path for decades.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Rega Planar 6 in White come with a cartridge?

No. The Planar 6 is supplied without a cartridge so you can choose freely. Good matches are the Rega Nd5 or Nd7 (MM) as well as Ania or Ania Pro (MC). On request, we'll fit and align your chosen system fully ready to play.

Does the Planar 6 need a phono preamp?

Yes. A phono stage isn't built in. You need an amplifier with a phono input or a separate preamp such as the Rega Fono MM or Fono MC – matched to an MM or MC cartridge.

What's the difference between the white version and the black one?

Nothing technical. The white version comes in a matte white finish, with a clear double-layer glass platter and a clear dust cover instead of the tinted one. Purely visual – sonically both are identical.

What does the external Neo MK2 power supply do?

The Neo MK2 drives the motor cleanly, switches electronically between 33 and 45 rpm and allows fine speed adjustment. This keeps speed stability steady and keeps vibration away from the turntable.
