Rega Carbon Pro

The Rega Carbon Pro is an elliptical upgrade stylus for the Rega Carbon cartridge: it replaces the standard conical stylus and, with its more precise cut, pulls noticeably more detail out of the groove – without you having to replace the cartridge itself.

Because with minimal effort it opens the door to an audibly higher sound class. The elliptical cut sits more precisely in the groove than the standard conical stylus and traces the groove walls more accurately. The swap is tool-free via a click-in system right on the tonearm – old stylus off, new one on, done.

Who is the Carbon Pro for? (and who it isn't – straight talk)

For owners of a Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus or Planar 2 with a Carbon cartridge who want an affordable, quick upgrade. Straight talk: if you're chasing the very last degree of spatial depth for audiophile classical recordings, this has its limits – a move to a higher-tier cartridge makes more sense then. But as an uncomplicated upgrade, the Carbon Pro is hard to beat.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to re-set the tonearm after the swap?

Generally not, since the Carbon Pro stylus matches the standard specification. However, we recommend briefly checking that the tracking force is still in the 2–3 g range – better safe than sorry, especially right after a stylus change.

How do I swap the stylus?

Tool-free: hold the plastic body between thumb and forefinger, and pull gently downwards and towards you. Position the new stylus at a slight angle until the hook engages, then push up until it clicks. If you're unsure, we'll do it with you in store.

Does the Carbon Pro fit any turntable?

It's designed for the Rega Carbon cartridge as fitted on the Planar 1, 1 Plus and 2 – but it fits any Carbon, including on other turntables. We'll quickly check whether your system is compatible; bring us your cartridge details if in doubt.
