Collection: Power Supplies

An external power supply replaces the wall-wart supplied with your streamer, DAC, phono stage or turntable with a quieter, lower-noise power source. Manufacturers often cut corners on the power supply at the factory – a switch-mode supply is cheap and compact, but it brings along high-frequency noise that sensitive digital and analogue circuits can hear.

Linear power supplies from KECES or Plixir instead deliver gently smoothed DC current, and battery-powered supplies from Clearaudio even disconnect the turntable motor completely from the mains during operation. The effect is usually a calmer, tidier sound with more detail in quiet passages – no miracle upgrade, but one that's reliably audible in good systems. Straight talk: a CHF 3,000 power supply on a CHF 300 DAC is burning money – the upgrade makes the most sense on devices that are already worth being pushed to their limits.

We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil will tell you honestly whether the upgrade is worthwhile for your device. You'll also find matching items under Turntable Accessories, DAC & D/A Converters and Power Filters & Power Conditioning.

Frequently asked questions

Does every external power supply fit every device?
No – voltage, current and plug polarity must match the device exactly. The manufacturer's specification on the original power supply or in the manual shows you the right values.
