MOON 461 + 491 Compass HiFi Set, Black

The MOON 461 + 491 set in Black combines the MOON 491 network player / preamplifier with the MOON 461 power amplifier to form a matched high-end system from the Compass Collection – both devices entirely black, with black chassis and black aluminium side panels.

The 491 out front, the 461 behind: source, conversion and volume in one place, power behind it. Both in look and sound the set feels of a piece – and takes on the role of bridgehead to the flagship North Collection within the MOON range.

What's in the set

• MOON 491 network player / preamplifier (black) — MiND 2, Roon Ready, DAC (2× ESS 9039Q2M), MM/MC phono, HDMI ARC, balanced inputs/outputs, headphone amplifier
• MOON 461 power amplifier (black) — 150 W / 8 Ω, 300 W / 4 Ω, 450 W mono-bridge, genuine dual-mono construction, MDCA topology, 3 operating modes

Why this set?

Because the preamp and power amp come from the same series, they harmonise perfectly, technically and visually – no hunting for the right combination, no compromise on look. And buying as a set costs less: bought separately, the 491 and 461 together cost CHF 10,560; as a set you get both for CHF 9,980 – a saving of CHF 580, without giving up a single franc's worth of sound.

Who is this set for – and who isn't it for?

Ideal for anyone who wants to build a complete, high-quality system in one step – streaming, vinyl, headphones and plenty of power included. If you're only after a small solution for a side room, a compact device is the better choice; this set deliberately plays in a higher league.
