The Paradigm Defiance X15 is an active subwoofer with a ported enclosure, a 38 cm driver, and 900 watts continuous power – the deep-bass flagship of the Defiance line for large rooms and no-compromise home cinema. Its driver with patented ART surround moves enormous amounts of air without tipping into distortion.
Why the Defiance X15?
When a subwoofer is meant to make zero compromises, this is where you end up. The 38 cm carbon-reinforced polypropylene cone sits in a ported enclosure with a flow-optimized port – built for maximum level and the deepest depth. Active Ridge Technology (ART) lets the cone travel further than usual, which Paradigm says delivers more output with significantly less distortion. 900 watts RMS (1800 watts dynamic) stand ready whenever the movie demands it. Subtle it is not – but that's not the point here either.
What you'll hear
Bass with mass. The X15 plays ±3 dB from 18 Hz and reaches usefully down to around 14 Hz – the range where a room as a whole starts to shake. Low-frequency movie effects gain physical weight, organ pedal notes and synthesizer foundations gain an authority that smaller subs simply can't deliver. Through the Paradigm app and ARC, you tame that power so it stays precise instead of just loud.
Who's the Defiance X15 for? (and who isn't it for — straight talk)
For large rooms, ambitious home cinemas, and anyone who wants to experience deep bass, not just hear it. Straight talk: the X15 is a chunk of a thing at around 42 kilos and needs space – in a small living room it's acoustic and physical overkill. If you want a sub that vanishes invisibly into a corner, you're better served by the sealed S series. And note: wireless isn't built in here – the Defiance WT is available separately.
Our verdict
The Defiance X15 is deep bass for people who mean it: powerful, deep, dynamic – the ported flagship of the series. Not a piece of bedroom furniture, but the foundation for a big home cinema or a full-scale stereo system. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we'll clarify upfront and honestly whether your room can handle this caliber – so respect for the level doesn't turn into regret.

Frequently asked questions
How big should the room be for the Defiance X15?
The X15 targets medium to large rooms, roughly 30 m² and up. Only there can the 38 cm driver bring its level and depth reserves to bear without overwhelming the room. In small rooms it's oversized – there the S10 or S12 delivers the more balanced result.
Is wireless transmission included with the X15?
No. Unlike the newer S series, the X15 doesn't have wireless built in. For a cordless connection, the Defiance WT is available as a separate transmitter/receiver set that plugs into the prepared port. Wired, it naturally runs straight away via RCA, XLR, or speaker-level.
Sealed (S series) or ported (X15) – what's the difference?
The ported X15 enclosure produces more level and deeper extension from the same cone area, ideal for home cinema. The sealed S series delivers the somewhat drier, faster bass in a smaller footprint. Simplified: X15 for maximum impact, S series for precision and discreet placement.
Can I also use the X15 for stereo music?
Yes. Through ARC and the app, the X15 can be dialed in precisely enough that it stays clean in pure stereo use too, adding low-end support to large floorstanders. With the bass boost and separate presets, you tune it differently for music listening than for movie night.
Why buy the Paradigm Defiance X15 at HD Zürisee?
Because a subwoofer this size quickly becomes more problem than pleasure without proper integration. We advise you upfront on room, placement, and level, and our own technician handles the ARC calibration on site if you wish – so 42 kilos of deep bass becomes controlled impact, not just rumble.
Goes well with
For the big performance: the right speakers, clean cabling, and the rest of the Paradigm family. For cordless placement of the X15, the matching Defiance WT is available as an accessory.
