The Gato Audio DPA-2506 is a configurable six-channel power amplifier that combines three Class-D modules in a single housing and can be set up anywhere from a bridged powerhouse to a six-zone hub.
Each of the three modules drives two channels – used individually or bridged when a speaker demands more current than is actually good for it. The inputs are balanced via XLR and unbalanced via RCA, six speaker pairs wait on the back, and a 12-volt trigger wakes the power amp together with the rest of the system. This version comes in black high gloss – the classic that disappears into the rack instead of pushing itself forward. Supplied as a single unit.
Why the Gato Audio DPA-2506?
Because with a single unit you decide how power is distributed around the house. Six channels for three stereo zones, bridged pairs for hungry speakers, or a mix of both: the split follows your floor plan, not the product brochure. That makes the DPA-2506 a calm foundation for custom-install systems where another room gets added later.
What you get
Distributable power with reserves. In six-channel operation, 250 watts at 8 ohms per channel are available, bridged it's up to 900 watts at 8 ohms on one channel. Class D keeps efficiency high and heat output low – the unit draws 75 watts at idle, under one watt in standby. The non-magnetic housing and balanced signal path keep the channels cleanly separated, which in a tightly packed equipment cabinet isn't a luxury, but a requirement.
Who is the DPA-2506 suited to – and who isn't it for?
For multiroom installations, larger home cinemas, and systems where a central power amp supplies several pairs of speakers. Straight talk: for a classic stereo chain in the living room, the DPA-2506 is two sizes too big – an integrated amplifier or a stereo power amp is enough there. If you're only powering one room, you're paying for flexibility you'll never use. Once a second and third zone are added, the argument flips around.
Our verdict
An honest, unfussy multichannel power amp that draws its strength from configurability rather than big words. Built with Danish restraint, cleanly laid out, pleasantly quiet in operation. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we plan the channel split together with you – and just as honestly tell you when a smaller solution is enough.

Frequently asked questions
How many speakers can the DPA-2506 drive?
In six-channel operation, six individual channels – so up to three stereo pairs across different zones. If you bridge modules, the channel count drops in favour of power per channel: three bridged channels at 900 watts each at 8 ohms are just as possible as mixed splits of powerful and normal channels.
Can I split the channels freely?
Yes. The three amplifier modules can be used individually as six channels, fully bridged, or mixed – for example two powerful bridged channels plus two normal ones. Bi-amping a pair of speakers is also possible this way. We work out with you beforehand which configuration suits your rooms.
Do I need a separate preamp?
Yes. The DPA-2506 is a pure power amplifier with no volume control and no source selection. It needs a preamp, an integrated amplifier with a preamp output, or an AV preamp ahead of it. The inputs accept balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA signals.
Why buy the Gato Audio DPA-2506 at HD Zürisee?
Because a configurable multichannel power amp needs planning, not just a shopping cart. We work out the channel split for your rooms with you, clarify cabling and trigger control, and our technician Mauri handles the on-site installation. Call or write to us.
Goes well with
You'll find the matching preamp under preamplifiers, speakers for the individual zones under floorstanding speakers and in-wall speakers. For wiring six channels, it's worth a look at cables & connectors, and for the movie side, the home cinema overview. More power amps are listed under power amplifiers.
