Loewe Antares 55 OLED TV, Black

The Loewe Antares 55 is a 4K OLED TV with a 139 cm (55″) screen diagonal, whose panel Loewe individually calibrates at its own factory in Kronach.

At 55 inches it hits the classic living-room size – big enough for movie night, compact enough for most rooms. The slim widescreen look with interchangeable onlays makes the TV more than a device on the wall: a piece of furniture that looks good even when switched off.

Why the Antares 55?

Because 55 inches is the sweet spot for OLED where picture size and everyday practicality fit together. Loewe calibrates every panel individually in Kronach, HDMI 2.1 with 144 Hz VRR turns the TV into a serious gaming screen along the way, and the interchangeable onlays make sure the TV fits your interior – not the other way round. Anyone who thinks of sluggish, yesterday's technology when they hear “German manufacturing” should have the gaming latency demonstrated to them.

What you see and hear

Rich OLED black, fine colour gradations and calm motion – Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive automatically adjust the picture to your ambient light, and up to around 1500 cd/m² peak brightness makes bright rooms during the day no problem. Loewe os9, based on VIDAA U9, brings Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube and Spotify right along with it, plus AirPlay and Miracast. Sound comes from the integrated Loewe invisible sound system with Dolby Atmos – invisibly built in, but anything but inaudible. Anyone who wants more can add the optional soundbar Antares or integrate an external system via HDMI eARC or Center-In.

Who is the Antares 55 suited for? (and who it isn't — plain talk)

For anyone who doesn't want to compromise on picture and design in the classic living-room format – whether as the main TV for the family room or as a high-quality replacement for an ageing set. Plain talk: if you just leave the TV running in the background and picture mode, onlay colour or calibration don't matter to you anyway, you're paying for features you don't need – a simpler set will do then. If you truly value picture, build quality and design, you get everything at once here.

Our verdict

The Antares 55 is the golden middle of the range: enough surface for the cinema feel, bright enough for daylight and built with a design ambition that looks more like furniture than technology. A TV you'll enjoy for a long time – not just until the next model year.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Loewe Antares 55 a genuine 4K OLED?
Yes. The Antares 55 uses an OLED panel that Loewe individually calibrates in Kronach – with true pixel black, full contrast and 4K resolution including Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive. For films and series that means the same picture DNA as the larger Antares models, just in living-room size.

Is the Antares 55 good for gaming?
Yes, outstandingly so. HDMI 2.1 delivers 4K at up to 144 Hz with VRR and ALLM, plus the typically low OLED response time. For PS5, Xbox Series X and a gaming PC, the Antares 55 is therefore not just a beautiful but also a fast screen – with no need for a separate gaming monitor.

Is the built-in sound enough or do I need a soundbar?
For news, series and everyday use, the integrated Loewe invisible sound system is perfectly adequate. For films with lots of bass and for music, an external solution brings out noticeably more – the optional soundbar Antares is a good fit for that, or alternatively an existing system via HDMI eARC.

Do I need a streaming subscription for the Antares 55?
No. Classic television via antenna, cable or satellite, USB recording and playback from the home network all run completely without a subscription. Netflix, Disney+ and other services come pre-installed via Loewe os9 – that's an option, not a requirement for everyday use of the TV.

Can I record with the Antares 55 and watch at the same time?
Yes. Loewe dual channel with a double triple tuner records programmes to USB while you watch a different channel, and timeshift pauses live TV. You handle scheduling conveniently via the electronic programme guide (EPG) – with no additional box or extra cost.
