The Leica Cine Play 1 is a 4K UHD laser home cinema projector with a triple RGB laser light source and Leica Summicron optics, delivering up to 3,000 ANSI lumens and image diagonals up to 300 inches.

Why a Leica projector and not just any 4K projector? Because it carries the same optical signature that Leica has perfected in camera lenses for over a hundred years. The Summicron lens isn't a marketing sticker, but the same lens philosophy photographers have bought cameras for decades for – now applied to home cinema.

What you'll see

With up to 3,000 lumens in Ultra mode, a dynamic contrast ratio of up to 2 million to 1, and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG, the Cine Play 1 draws a bold, rich image even in daylight – up to 300 inches, if your living room plays along. Two built-in 10-watt speakers with Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual:X provide a solid foundation, though for a true cinema feel we still recommend a soundbar or a surround setup (see "Goes well with").

Who it's for (straight talk)

The Cine Play 1 is for anyone who wants a fixed, large home cinema picture – with noticeably more brightness and sharpness than the compact Cine Compact 1, but also more weight (6.7 kg) and more demands on the room. Two HDMI 2.1 inputs, USB, Ethernet, and an optical output make it the hub for console, Blu-ray player, and sound system all at once. Straight talk: if you want to carry the projector between rooms or into the garden, the lighter Cine Compact 1 serves you better – the Cine Play 1 wants a permanent spot, and rewards you for giving it one.

Our verdict

For us at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, the Cine Play 1 is what happens when a camera manufacturer refuses to compromise on optics for home cinema. The picture looks noticeably calmer and more naturally rendered than many consumer projectors in this price range – honestly, you rarely notice that about a living-room projector right away.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the Cine Play 1 and the more compact Cine Compact 1?

The Cine Play 1 delivers noticeably more brightness with up to 3,000 lumens, a larger image up to 300 inches, and the same Leica Summicron optics. In return, it's heavier at 6.7 kg and is designed more for a fixed spot than mobile use.

Do I necessarily need a screen?

No, you can also project directly onto a bright, smooth wall. For maximum colour accuracy, contrast, and an even image across the full size, though, we recommend a high-quality projector screen for this device – we're happy to advise you on that personally.

Is a stand included?

No, the Cine Play 1 is supplied without a stand. The matching Leica Floor Stand 1 is available separately: it places the projector freestanding in the room at around 66cm height, with power running through pin contacts in the stand – no visible cable at the projector.

How many devices can I connect at the same time?

The Cine Play 1 offers two HDMI 2.1 inputs, two USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, and an optical audio output. That lets you connect a console, Blu-ray player, and sound system simultaneously, with no constant swapping between sources.

Can I also use the Cine Play 1's power supply for the Cine Compact 1?

No, absolutely not. Both Leica projectors' power supplies have the same plug and fit the same Floor Stand 1, but deliver different current ratings. Always use only the power supply that came with your projector – a swapped power supply can damage the projector. When in doubt, ask us.

Why buy the Leica Cine Play 1 at HD Zürisee?

We advise you on placement, screen choice, and how it works with your existing system – and take care of delivery and on-site installation on request. As an authorised dealer, we handle the warranty correctly and our technician is on hand for questions.

Goes well with

For the right cinema sound: soundbars or an AV receiver with surround speakers. For the connection: HDMI cables in the right length. For free-standing placement in the room: the Leica Floor Stand 1 under home cinema accessories.
