The Advance Paris A12 ClassicLine is a hybrid integrated amplifier with tube preamp and transistor power stage that delivers 2 × 190 watts into 8 ohms in a dual-mono layout. It's the flagship of the Classic Line series – the big brother of the A10, with more power, more connections, and the same glowing tubes behind the viewing window. The illuminated VU meters come along for free – it used to take a second device for that.

Why the A12 ClassicLine?

Because it cleanly joins two worlds: the preamp works with selected tubes and brings warmth and richness to the sound, while the Class AB power stage delivers, with 2 × 280 watts into 4 ohms, the control that large speakers need. Two channel-separated toroidal transformers ensure stable power delivery, and with the High-Bias switch you raise the bias current toward Class A – for even more tube character whenever you're in the mood.

What you get

The equipment goes far beyond a classic integrated amplifier: phono input for MM and MC cartridges, two balanced XLR inputs, five RCA inputs, three optical and three coaxial digital inputs each, AES/EBU, USB-B for your computer, USB-A for MP3 files from a stick, plus an HDMI audio input and an HDMI ARC connection for the TV. Preamp and power amp can be separated, plus there's Pre-Out in RCA and XLR, Rec-Out, two subwoofer outputs, speaker zones A/B and a 6.35mm headphone output. You can add Bluetooth as needed via the optional Advance dongle (X-FTB01/X-FTB02).

Who is the A12 ClassicLine right for – and who isn't it right for?

Honestly: the A12 is built for large rooms, demanding floorstanding speakers, and people who want to combine vinyl, CD, TV and streaming sources in one device. For a study with compact speakers it's overqualified – the A10 is entirely sufficient there, and your back will thank you when setting it up (17.9 kg). If you want built-in streaming, look at the MyConnect series or add a streamer at the digital input.

What's the difference between the A12 ClassicLine and the A12 APEX?

The APEX is the limited anniversary version with a modern ES9039 conversion section, HDMI eARC and satin finish. The A12 ClassicLine offers the same hybrid architecture and practically identical power at a more affordable price – the better price-to-sound ratio for anyone who doesn't care about the limited edition.

Our verdict

The A12 ClassicLine is one of the most versatile hybrid integrated amplifiers in its class: tube warmth, real power reserves, and a range of connections so generous that even well-equipped systems need no adapters. Whether it suits your speakers and your room is something we're happy to discuss in person at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil – 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect a turntable directly?

Yes, the A12 ClassicLine has a built-in phono preamp for MM and MC cartridges. Your turntable connects directly to the amplifier, without an external phono stage. We're happy to explain which setting suits your cartridge if needed.

Does the A12 ClassicLine work with a TV?

Yes, via the HDMI connection with ARC, the TV sound runs directly through your stereo system, and you control the volume with the TV remote. A second HDMI input accepts another audio source. Movies and shows sound noticeably more grown-up through real speakers than through any soundbar.

Does the A12 ClassicLine have Bluetooth or streaming built in?

No, not from the factory. You can add Bluetooth via the optional Advance dongle X-FTB01 or X-FTB02; streaming is flexibly added via a network streamer at one of the many digital inputs. Vinyl, CD and TV sound are enjoyed entirely without a subscription or extra device, of course.

Is the power enough for large floorstanding speakers?

Yes, with 2 × 280 watts into 4 ohms, dual-mono construction, and two channel-separated toroidal transformers, the A12 ClassicLine confidently drives even demanding floorstanding speakers in large rooms. Power reserves and stability are among this flagship's strengths.

Can I connect headphones to the A12 ClassicLine?

Yes, there's a 6.35mm headphone jack on the front. It drives common dynamic models without any trouble; electrostatic headphones, however, need their own power supply. We're happy to tell you which headphones suit the A12 well – just call or write.

Why buy the A12 ClassicLine at HD Zürisee?

Our seasoned team knows the Advance Paris lineup from practical experience, helps you choose between A10, A12 and APEX, and as an authorized dealer takes care of delivery, installation and warranty – personally, not through a phone queue.

Goes well with

The A12 ClassicLine plays best with large speakers, a turntable at the MM/MC phono stage, or a streamer at the digital input. More from the brand in the Advance Paris overview.
