The EMT stylus guard for the HSD series is a protective cap that covers the diamond of the EMT HSD 006 and HSD SC6 cartridges during mounting, alignment, and transport.

A spare part nobody thinks about — until it's missing. Small caps have a habit of vanishing into moving boxes, drawers, or under the rack, usually on exactly the day you're remounting the cartridge.

Why a second stylus guard?

Because the riskiest moment in a cartridge's life isn't playback — it's screwdriver work. During mounting and removal, overhang alignment, and transport in the headshell, the diamond sits exposed and unprotected — one slip of the screwdriver is enough. EMT's original cap fits the HSD housing precisely and takes that worry off your hands for a few seconds of effort.

Who is the stylus guard for?

For anyone with an EMT HSD 006 or HSD SC6 who stores their system, ships it, or switches it between two turntables. Straight talk: if you mount your cartridge once and don't touch it again for ten years, you don't need a spare cap. If you rebuild regularly or want to ship the system insured, you should have one in the drawer.

Our verdict

The cheapest piece of insurance in the analogue rack. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we keep the cap within reach at every cartridge mount — and recommend you do the same.

Frequently asked questions

Which EMT cartridges does this stylus guard fit?

The HSD series models, namely EMT HSD 006 and EMT HSD SC6. The JSD models have a different housing and need the JSD series stylus guard. This cap is likewise not intended for the TSD, TMD, and TND series cartridges.

Do I need the stylus guard during playback?

No, it naturally comes off during operation. It belongs on the cartridge whenever you're screwing, aligning, transporting, or storing it. Almost all diamond damage happens in exactly these moments — and a new stylus assembly costs many times more than a protective cap.

How do I fit the stylus guard correctly?

Slide it on from the front, straight, and without pressure on the stylus assembly, until the cap sits against the housing. Never tilt it sideways and never push it over the diamond. If you're unsure, we're happy to show you the technique before you pick up the screwdriver yourself.

Why buy the EMT stylus guard from HD Zürisee?

Because we carry EMT as an authorized dealer and therefore know which spare part belongs to which model. We check in advance whether your version fits, and our technician Mauri handles mounting and alignment on request. Call us, write to us, or use WhatsApp.

The stylus guard is the small end of a bigger chain: you'll find matching cartridges under Cartridges, and everything about alignment and care under Turntable Accessories. If you're already working on the turntable anyway, you'll find the rest of the toolbox under All Vinyl and Accessories.
