Dynavox Record Cleaning Mat, Black

The Dynavox record cleaning mat is a soft polyurethane mat measuring 35 × 35 cm on which you clean your records by hand instead of laying them on the bare table.

It's the most unassuming part of hand washing and the one most easily forgotten — until the first record picks up a scratch on a table edge. The soft polyurethane absorbs the pressure of the brush, the non-slip underside keeps everything in place.

Why a dedicated cleaning mat?

Because cleaning does exactly what vinyl doesn't like: you press down. If the record is lying on wood, glass or stone while you do, every speck of dust between the table and the back causes exactly the damage you were trying to prevent. The mat places a yielding layer in between and distributes the pressure. And it stays put while you work — a mat that wanders off helps no one.

A mat of durable polyurethane, 35 × 35 cm and around 2 mm thick. The format takes an LP with its edge and is plenty big enough for singles anyway. Top surface smooth, underside non-slip, colour black — so it keeps a pleasingly low profile next to your turntable.

Who is the cleaning mat for?

Honestly: if you own a record washing machine, you don't need it — the record is already secure there. It doesn't replace cleaning either, it just makes it safe. And it's not intended as a platter mat.

Frequently asked questions

How do I clean the mat itself?

Wipe it down with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry flat. The polyurethane is durable and takes no harm from this. What matters most is that no dust particles remain on top when the next record goes on it — the mat itself shouldn't turn into sandpaper.

Does the mat tolerate cleaning fluid?

Yes, the material is durable and made for use with common record cleaners. Still, any liquid that spills should be wiped up before it runs under the record. A puddle between mat and vinyl certainly won't do the paper label any good.

Can I use the mat as a platter mat?

No, it's not intended for that. At 35 × 35 cm it's square and considerably bigger than any platter, and its thickness isn't matched to tracking height. It's a work surface for the table — your original mat stays on the platter.
