The Dynavox stylus cleaner is a set consisting of an isopropanol-based cleaning fluid and a fine brush that frees your cartridge's diamond from dust and vinyl residue.
The brush sits in the cap and is permanently immersed in the fluid: unscrew, run it once over the needle, screw back on. With normal use, the 20 millilitres last surprisingly long – more than a damp touch shouldn't go on the brush anyway.
Why the stylus cleaner?
Because whatever brews at the stylus tip is what you hear afterwards. A coating of dust and worn-off vinyl makes playback dull and distorted, and acts like sandpaper in the groove – so it costs you not just sound, but records too. Dry brushing removes loose fluff; only a solvent dissolves a baked-on film.
What you get
A bottle with 20 ml of isopropanol-based cleaning fluid and a fine brush built into the cap. That makes the set ready to use at any time, needing about as much space next to your turntable as an eraser.
Who is the stylus cleaner for?
For anyone who listens to vinyl regularly and doesn't want to wear out their cartridge prematurely. Straight talk on safety: the fluid is alcohol-based (isopropanol), highly flammable and irritating to the eyes – keep away from open flame, avoid eye contact, keep away from children. And use it sparingly: on cartridges with a glued-in cantilever, too much fluid can creep into the adhesive joint. If your cartridge manufacturer explicitly rules out alcohol, reach for a dry cleaning gel or a carbon brush instead.
Our verdict
Small bottle, big effect – provided you use it sparingly. The stylus cleaner is the cheapest life extension you can give your cartridge. Just do it with a steady hand and a glance at your cartridge manufacturer's guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I clean the stylus properly?
Always from back to front, i.e. in the direction of play. Wipe the brush against the bottle neck so it's only damp, and draw it two to three times over the stylus tip, moving away from the tonearm. Never sideways, never against the grain, and never with pressure – the cantilever bends more easily than you think.
Can the alcohol damage my cartridge?
Used sparingly, the risk is low, though it can't be entirely ruled out. Isopropanol can attack adhesives if fluid runs into the joint between the cantilever and the generator. So only wet the tip, never dip the stylus – and if in doubt, check your cartridge manufacturer's recommendation.
How often should I clean the stylus?
As soon as you see fluff on the tip, at the latest after every longer listening session. If you play records daily, once a week works well. What matters is regularity: fresh coating comes off with one stroke, old coating hardens and then only comes off with patience.
