The Bluesound Pulse Cinema Mini (P431) in Tan is a compact active 2.1 soundbar that virtualises Dolby Atmos via DSP and bundles TV sound with high-resolution multiroom streaming via BluOS in a slim aluminium enclosure.

Why the Pulse Cinema Mini?

Eight drivers and 280 watts of system power sit in an enclosure just 85 centimetres wide: two tweeters, two midranges, two four-inch woofers and two passive radiators for the foundation. The drivers are mounted at an angle, and the DSP calculates the Dolby Atmos height information. The result is an audibly larger sense of space than the form factor would suggest – with no drivers firing toward the ceiling.

Add to that Bluesound's Smart DSP with automatic position detection: the bar automatically adjusts to whether it's standing on a sideboard or mounted on the wall. And once the credits roll, the soundbar simply becomes a hi-res streamer via BluOS, playing in sync with the rest of the house.

Who's the Pulse Cinema Mini for – and who isn't it for?

Ideal if your living room is brightly furnished, the TV measures 43 inches or more, and you don't want the soundbar standing out as a black bar. Also ideal for small to medium rooms where little floor space but serious streaming quality is what's needed. Less suited to large rooms demanding channel-separated, physically radiated Atmos height – that's what the larger Pulse Cinema (P530) with genuine up-firing drivers is for. A turntable needs a separate phono preamp, and the Mini has no HDMI pass-through input for source devices.

Bluesound officially calls the finish Tan. In practice, the body is kept light and the fabric covering is sand-coloured – noticeably warmer than classic white, more understated than bold beige. Technically it's identical to the black version; only the look differs.

How does the Pulse Cinema Mini create Dolby Atmos?

Computationally, via the DSP. The Mini has no physical up-firing drivers – its eight units sit angled in the front, and the height information is virtualised. This sounds noticeably more spacious than the TV itself, but it doesn't replace genuine ceiling reflections like the larger Pulse Cinema.

What connections does the Pulse Cinema Mini have?

One each of HDMI eARC, optical Toslink, analogue RCA and USB-A for external storage, plus Gigabit Ethernet. On the output side there's an RCA subwoofer output. It has no HDMI pass-through input for source devices – sources stay connected to the TV, and the sound comes back via eARC. That keeps the cabling lean.
