Blok Stax 2G 4-Shelf HiFi Rack, Ash Natural/Satin White

The Blok Stax 2G 4-Shelf is a four-tier, modular HiFi rack whose levels are individually decoupled via silicone pads and freely combinable in height.

This finish combines shelves in natural ash plywood with supports in silky-matte satin white. It's the most understated of the three finishes – bright, friendly, and in a white-painted living room it barely registers as furniture at all. Blok is British, part of the Monitor Audio Group, and builds nothing but HiFi furniture.

Why the Stax 2G 4-Shelf?

The four levels are made up of the base module, two 170 mm levels, and one 220 mm level on top. The order is deliberate: flat electronics at the bottom, room to breathe at the top for a turntable with a dust cover or an AV receiver. Because every module is also available individually, the configuration doesn't have to stay as delivered – you keep building freely up to a total height of 1100 mm.

What you get

Above all, calm underneath your gear. Between each level sits a silicone pad whose hardness Blok says it has specifically tuned. The supports are hollow and can be weighted with one to five litres of sand or granulate via rubber plugs. Add cable cutouts at the back of every level, height-adjustable feet with spikes for carpet and pads for hard flooring – and 40 kg load capacity per shelf. That's considerably more engineering than you'd credit a piece of furniture with at first glance.

Who is the Stax 2G 4-Shelf suitable for?

For bright, modern rooms and for anyone who wants their system visibly on display without it turning into a wall of technology. Straight talk: satin white forgives less than dark surfaces, dust and fingerprints show up more readily. And if you're after a rack you set down once and never touch again, you're buying modularity here that you'll never use.

Our verdict

Blok turned an accessory into a piece of furniture you're happy to look at even without a system on top – the EISA jury agreed and named the series EISA AV Furniture 2024-2025. Chris Baillie put it well at The Ear: "The Blok Stax 2G's talents are more than skin deep." (The Ear, December 2024). Frequently asked questions

How much space do I have per level?

480 × 379 mm of usable surface per shelf – enough for all common full-size components. Height is set by the modules: two levels are 170 mm tall, one is 220 mm. For a turntable with a dust cover, take the 220, and if in doubt, just ask us.

Do I need the spikes or the hard-floor pads?

That depends on your floor. On carpet you want the spikes, because they push through the pile and let the rack sit firmly on the subfloor – 22 mm tall. On parquet, laminate or stone, use the hard-floor pads at 14 mm. Both are included, and you decide at assembly.

How heavy and how big is the rack?

In this plywood finish, the complete 4-Shelf weighs 20.9 kg and measures 708 × 602 × 402 mm in height, width and depth. That's light enough to carry with two people, and heavy enough to stand really solidly once the supports are filled.

Can the rack be expanded later?

Yes, that's the core of the system. All Stax 2G modules fit together, so you can add a level, swap one, or change the order. Blok states 1100 mm as the recommended maximum height. Modules are available in 120, 170 and 220 mm, plus an LP level for records.
