The Blok Stax 2G 4-Shelf is a modular HiFi rack with four levels, where silicone isolation pads decouple each level individually from the rest of the structure.

In this finish, black-stained ash plywood shelves meet supports in natural walnut – the warmest material mix in the series. Dark electronics look less severe on it, yet the furniture itself still doesn't push itself into the foreground. The Stax 2G is built by Blok, the furniture brand of the British Monitor Audio Group.

Why the Stax 2G 4-Shelf?

The configuration consists of the base module, two 170 mm levels, and one 220 mm level. The top tier also fits an AV receiver or a turntable with a dust cover, without you bumping into the level above when you cue up a record. At 708 mm total height, everything stays within easy reach, and because every module is available individually, the rack simply grows with you later – up to the recommended maximum height of 1100 mm.

What you get

Four clean spots to stand your gear instead of a pile of devices on the sideboard. Silicone pads sit between the levels so vibrations don't travel from one device to another; each support has a rubber plug, so you can weight it with one to five litres of sand or granulate. A cutout for cables runs along the back of every level, and you set the four feet on spikes or hard-floor pads as you prefer. Who is the Stax 2G 4-Shelf suitable for?

For systems with three to five components – amplifier, turntable, streamer, player – that should stand properly without a piece of furniture taking over the room. Straight talk: if you only own an integrated amplifier and a streamer, the more compact 3-Shelf serves you better. And generous as 40 kg per level is, a pair of truly heavy mono power amps is better placed directly on the floor.

A rack that can do both: look good and actually help acoustically. The EISA jury agreed and named the series EISA AV Furniture 2024-2025. Hi-Fi News summed up the test like this: "Sensible and good-looking it is, but more importantly, the 'floating' levels, the rigid supports and shelf materials make acoustic sense too." What's the difference between the 3-Shelf and the 4-Shelf?

The 4-Shelf has one more level and, at 708 mm, is around 23 cm taller than the 3-Shelf. The additional 220 mm level accommodates tall devices. As soon as you're fitting more than three components or planning a turntable with a dust cover, the 4-Shelf is the right choice.

How much weight does a level carry?

Up to 40 kg per level, according to Blok. That covers integrated amplifiers, heavy power amps, and substantial turntables. A level surface is important: align the four feet cleanly with the tool provided, or the decoupling won't work the way it should.

Can I later reconfigure or expand the rack?

Yes. All Stax 2G modules can be combined with one another, so you can swap, add, or rearrange levels. Blok recommends a maximum height of 1100 mm – up to that point, you build freely as needed. The levels are available individually in 120, 170, and 220 mm, as well as an LP module.

What are the supports filled for?

For extra mass and rigidity. Each support has a rubber plug; you can fill it with one to five litres of dry sand or quartz granulate. That calms the furniture's own resonances and makes the structure more stable – especially worthwhile on a springy wooden floor.
