Advance Paris A10 APEX 30th Edition Amplifier

The Advance Paris A10 APEX 30th Edition is a limited hybrid integrated amplifier that unites a tube preamp with two ECC81s, a Class AB power stage with 2 × 130 watts into 8 ohms, and the ESS Sabre 9018 DAC together with HDMI eARC. Released for Advance Paris's 30th anniversary, in exclusive black with white VU meters – limited, so it won't stay on the shelf for long.

Why the A10 APEX?

The APEX models are the upgraded anniversary versions of the proven Advance classics: better conversion, more connections, a finer finish. The ECC81 tubes shape the sound in the preamp – warm, vivid, with voices you feel you could reach out and touch – while the power stage with its 380 VA toroidal transformer keeps a firm grip even on power-hungry floorstanders. The icing on the cake is the High-Bias switch: it runs the first watts practically in Class A – audibly smoother at room volume, which is where most music-listening happens anyway.

What you get

The ESS Sabre 9018 converts PCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD128 via USB. HDMI eARC connects the TV with a single cable, plus three optical and one coaxial input. Analog: five RCA, a balanced XLR input, and an MM phono stage for your turntable. Two switchable speaker zones, Pre-Out with separable power amp, Rec-Out, two subwoofer outputs and a 6.35mm headphone jack round out the package. Bluetooth can be added optionally via an A-BTC receiver – and you don't need a streaming subscription for any of this: vinyl, CD and TV all run completely self-sufficiently.

Who is the A10 APEX right for – and who isn't it right for?

Plain talk: tubes and transformer need airflow – a closed TV cabinet is off the table. There's no built-in network streaming; if you want that from the factory, check out the MyConnect models. MC cartridges are also out of luck, since the phono stage is designed for MM. And because the 30th Edition is limited, whoever thinks too long ends up negotiating on the used market instead. For anyone looking for a characterful amplifier with a modern range of connections, though, the A10 APEX is a rare stroke of luck.

What does the High-Bias switch on the A10 APEX do?

It raises the power stage's bias current so the first watts run practically in Class A operation. At low to medium volume, the amplifier therefore sounds even finer and smoother – exactly where you listen most in everyday life. At party level, you simply switch it back off.

How does the APEX differ from the A10 ClassicLine?

The APEX is the upgraded anniversary edition: HDMI eARC instead of ARC, revised electronics, a 380 VA toroidal transformer, a headphone jack, and the exclusive black finish with white VU meters – and it's limited. Both share the base architecture with ECC81 tube preamp and 2 × 130 watts.

Can the A10 APEX stream?

Not from the factory – it's deliberately an amplifier, not a network device. Bluetooth can be added via an optional A-BTC receiver, and via the digital inputs you can connect any streamer of your choice. Turntable, CD and TV play regardless, without a subscription and without internet.

Does an MC cartridge fit the A10 APEX?

Not directly: the built-in phono stage is designed for MM cartridges. With an MC cartridge you'll need an external phono preamp or a step-up transformer, which then connects to one of the RCA inputs. We're happy to work out which combination suits your turntable.
