Eversolo DMP-A8 Master Gen 2 Network Streamer

The Eversolo DMP-A8 Master Gen 2 is a network streamer with AKM converters, a balanced preamp and a top-loading CD drive, bringing streaming, network music and silver discs together in one device.

The Master Gen 2 adds a CD drive to the concept of the DMP-A8 Gen 2 and is aimed at anyone who doesn't want to give up their CD collection.

Why the DMP-A8 Master Gen 2?

Because you listen to digital sources and CDs through the same DAC and the same preamp. An AKM AK4499EXEQ and an AK4191EXEQ act as converters, and volume is controlled via a fully balanced R-2R network. PCM up to 768 kHz/32 bit and native DSD512 are possible. On the network side, WiFi 6 and Gigabit LAN are available, and Bluetooth 5.4 receives audio. The display measures 8.6 inches, a 20-band equalizer is part of the feature set, 64 GB is built in, and an M.2 slot adds up to 8 TB.

What you hear

The combination of converter and balanced preamp is designed to add as little character of its own as possible. Together with the option to equalize the signal when needed, you get plenty of room to shape the sound. What matters in the end is how the device works together with your system and your room.

Who is the DMP-A8 Master Gen 2 for?

For music lovers who want to listen to CDs and streaming on equal terms and don't want a separate player for it. Plain and simple: a headphone output is not listed in the data sheet. If you can do entirely without discs, the DMP-A8 Gen 2 without a drive is simpler and cheaper.

Our verdict

The DMP-A8 Master Gen 2 is a well-rounded all-rounder for anyone who wants to combine two worlds. High-quality converters, a clean preamp and the drive in the same case save space and cables. At HD Zürisee we are happy to explain where it pays off compared with its siblings.

Frequently asked questions

Does the DMP-A8 Master Gen 2 play CDs?

Yes, a top-loading CD drive is built in. The CD runs through the same DAC and the same preamp as streaming and network music. That way you hear all sources with the same sonic character and don't need an additional player.

How does the Master Gen 2 differ from the DMP-A8 Gen 2?

The Master Gen 2 additionally comes with the top-loading CD drive. Converters, preamp and the 8.6-inch touchscreen follow the same concept. If you don't listen to CDs, the Gen 2 without a drive saves you money and space.
