The Denon AVS-3 is an 8K HDMI switch with three inputs and one output that expands the HDMI inputs of an existing AV receiver or TV.
No amplifier, no speaker, no streaming device – the AVS-3 is a pure, unobtrusive cabling aid. If your AV receiver or TV is fully occupied and another console, an extra player or a second source needs to be added, you plug in three additional HDMI sources here and switch between them via a single output.
Why the AVS-3?
Because it puts an end to the annoying cable-swapping without you having to buy a new receiver with more inputs straight away. All three inputs are fully 8K/60 and 4K/120 capable, HDCP 2.3 compatible, and support ALLM, VRR, QMS and QFT throughout – so the chain stays as fast and up to date as your source devices, with no compromises to the gaming signal.
Automatic source detection via HDMI-CEC switches to the right input as soon as a device is turned on, plus an IR remote control for manual switching and a wall-mount bracket for the rack.
What you get
Three HDMI inputs, one HDMI output, full bandwidth of up to 40 Gbit/s for 8K signals, plus audio pass-through for all common formats up to Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD. The switch needs its own power supply and is frugal in operation at around 2.3 watts.
Who is the AVS-3 suited for?
For anyone whose AV receiver or TV has too few HDMI inputs to keep all sources permanently connected – for example a console, Blu-ray player, streaming box and PC at the same time. For a home cinema that already has enough free HDMI inputs, the AVS-3 is simply unnecessary.
Straight talk: The AVS-3 doesn't amplify or improve any signal – it only switches. Picture and sound quality remain exactly as they come from the source, neither better nor worse. If you instead want to distribute one signal to multiple rooms, you need an HDMI splitter rather than a switch.
Our verdict
The AVS-3 isn't a device you need to think long about – either you have the problem of too few HDMI inputs, or you don't need it. If you do, you get an unfussy, reliable solution here with no signal loss. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we'll tell you honestly whether a switch solves your problem or whether a new receiver is the better investment.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the Denon AVS-3 do?
It's a pure HDMI switch: you connect up to three HDMI sources and route them through a shared output to your AV receiver or TV. Ideal when your existing HDMI inputs are no longer enough.
Does the AVS-3 degrade picture or sound quality?
No. The signal is passed through, not altered or re-encoded. At 8K/60 Hz or 4K/120 Hz with HDR, full quality and bandwidth are preserved, as long as the source and target device support it too.
Is the AVS-3 an AV receiver or amplifier?
No. The AVS-3 has no amplifier stage of its own and no speaker connection – it only switches HDMI signals. You still need an AV receiver or TV behind it for sound and picture processing.
Does the AVS-3 automatically switch to the active source?
Yes, via HDMI-CEC it usually detects automatically which device has just been turned on and switches to it. An IR remote control is also included for manual switching.
Why buy the Denon AVS-3 at HD Zürisee?
