LEICA

Leica has recently been building not only cameras but also standalone home cinema projectors – with the same Summicron optical signature that has shaped the brand for over a hundred years. Currently two models: the compact Cine Compact 1 and the powerful Cine Play 1, both with triple RGB laser and a 4K UHD picture.

The Leica range at our shop

  • Cine Compact 1 – the compact 4K laser projector with its own 360° rotating stand, a light 4.4 kg, up to 1,700 lumens. For a studio apartment, holiday home or a spontaneous movie night in the garden.
  • Cine Play 1 – the big brother for the fixed home cinema: up to 3,000 lumens, image diagonals up to 300 inches, two HDMI 2.1 inputs. Stand available as an option.

What you choose by

The choice depends less on features than on where you'll use it: if you want to carry the projector when needed, sometimes into the living room, sometimes onto the terrace, the Cine Compact 1 with its own stand and 4.4 kg weight is the obvious choice. If the projector is to stay in one place and deliver a large, bright picture even with a little stray light, the Cine Play 1 scores with almost twice the light output. Both share the same Leica Summicron optics – the difference lies in size, weight and brightness, not in the quality of the lens.

Honestly speaking

In projectors, Leica is still a young name, not an established projector manufacturer with twenty models to choose from – if you're looking for the widest choice of price classes, you'll find that more with the big consumer brands. But if you want a camera maker's optical signature in your home cinema too and can live with two very well-thought-out models, you're in exactly the right place. A bit like with the camera itself: Leica doesn't make the most, but makes it with unusual care.

Frequently asked questions

What distinguishes the Cine Compact 1 from the Cine Play 1?

The Cine Compact 1 is the compact, mobile projector with its own stand and up to 1,700 lumens – ideal for flexible use. The Cine Play 1 delivers significantly more light output with up to 3,000 lumens and a larger picture, but is heavier and meant for a fixed spot.

Do I need a screen for a Leica projector?

No, both models also project sharp 4K images directly onto a bright, smooth wall. For maximum colour fidelity and contrast at larger image diagonals, we still recommend a projector screen – we'll gladly advise you on that.

Is a stand always included in the delivery?

With the Cine Compact 1, yes – the 360° rotating stand is built in. With the Cine Play 1, no – a matching Leica stand is available as an optional accessory.

Goes well with

For the right cinema sound: soundbars or an AV receiver with surround speakers. For the connection: HDMI cables in the right length.
