bFly-Audio Talis Basic – Speaker Absorber Feet 4-Pack

The bFly-Audio Talis Basic are absorber feet that are screwed into the speaker's thread in place of spikes and decouple it from the floor.

Spikes are the old school: they couple the speaker to the ground. On solid stone floors that's fine – on laminate or parquet, though, you bring footfall noise, microphonics and undefined bass into your living room. The Talis does the opposite: it decouples instead of coupling.

Why the Talis Basic?

The aluminum body takes the thread at the top and houses the damping structure: in the Basic, one disc plus one ring of bFly's proven cork-rubber granulate. Sorbothane is deliberately not included here – that's reserved for the Talis Pro. At the bottom sits a glider insert made of POM: it distributes the vibrations and still lets you slide the speaker around without scratching the floor. If you remove the threaded stud at the top, you can also simply place the Talis underneath – for speakers without any thread socket at all.

What you hear

Deeper, better controlled bass. Cleaner mids. A soundstage that no longer sticks to the floor. And above all: no footfall noise travelling from the speaker back into the whole system. Anyone who has once heard how a floorstanding speaker on a vibrating wooden floor makes half the room play along knows how much there is to gain here. The Talis can be used not only under speakers, but also under stands, racks and subwoofers.

Who is the Talis Basic for – and who is it not for?

Ideal for speakers, stands, racks and subwoofers on wooden, laminate or suspended floors, with an M6 to M12 thread socket or for placing underneath. Size M carries up to 50 kg per set and is enough for most bookshelf speakers and lighter floorstanders; the generously dimensioned size L carries up to 400 kg per set and covers practically any device – including heavy floorstanders, racks and subwoofers. Straight talk: the Basic M costs CHF 179.–, the Basic L CHF 279.–. The Talis Pro sits above that at CHF 269.– (M) and CHF 389.– (L) respectively, and brings more technology with its additional Sorbothane layer. If you deliberately want the simpler, more straightforward solution, the Basic is a good fit in both sizes. And if you listen on a solid concrete slab without resonance problems, you'll notice less of the effect anyway.

The Talis Basic is the solid spike replacement for anyone who listens on wooden or suspended floors and needs noticeable headroom: screwed in, calmer in the bass, and still movable thanks to the glider. A good example that the last few percent often lie under the speaker and not in the next piece of equipment. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Talis Basic and Talis Pro?

The Basic damps with one disc and one ring of cork-rubber granulate in the aluminum body. The Talis Pro adds a Sorbothane disc, which is decoupled from the cork-rubber ring by a separating foil. So Sorbothane is found exclusively in the Pro, not in the Basic. The Pro therefore works more broadband, while the Basic remains the robust, uncomplicated solution that is cheaper in both sizes.

Which size do I need – M or L?

The weight per set decides. Talis Basic M carries up to 50 kg per set (Ø 42 mm), Talis Basic L up to 400 kg per set (Ø 55 mm). For bookshelf speakers and lighter floorstanders, M is usually enough; heavy behemoths, racks or subwoofers take L.

Which thread do I need, and does a different one cost extra?

The standard is M8, which is included in the price. If you need M6, M10 or M12, you select that directly here on the product page – surcharge CHF 20 per set; the M8 fine thread for USM Haller furniture costs a CHF 30 surcharge per set. If your speaker has no thread socket at all, you remove the threaded stud and simply place the Talis underneath – that works just as well as screwed in.

Can I still move the speakers with the Talis fitted?

Yes. On the underside sits a glider insert made of POM. It distributes the vibrations and still lets you align the speaker to the millimeter without scratching parquet or laminate. Especially when fine-tuning the setup, that's considerably more pleasant than heaving a heavy speaker over spikes.
