Yamaha TSR-700 – 7.2-channel home cinema receiver with Dolby Atmos

The TSR-700 is Yamaha's 7.2-channel receiver with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and technically closely related to the RX-V6A. Seven amplified channels, seven HDMI inputs, a phono input and the complete MusicCast streaming suite – in a somewhat plainer chassis. If you want a 5.1.2 Atmos or 7.1 system, you get a lot of home cinema for your money here.

Sound & amplification

Seven channels at 100 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, two channels driven, 0.06% THD) are easily enough for normal living rooms. YPAO with R.S.C. and multi-point measurement adapts the sound to the room, and CINEMA DSP 3D extends the spatial imaging. 5.1.2 (Atmos), 7.1, or 5.1 with bi-amping are all possible.

Surround & HDMI

Seven HDMI inputs and one output, three of which offer the full 8K/60 and 4K/120 bandwidth (HDMI 2.1), plus HDCP 2.3 and eARC. Picture with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and BT.2020; gaming with ALLM and VRR. It decodes Dolby Atmos including height virtualization, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. A genuine, amplified Zone 2 supplies a second room.

Streaming & sources

MusicCast turns the TSR-700 into a multiroom hub: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Deezer, Amazon Music and more. Voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, radio via the DAB+/FM tuner. An MM phono input is built in for vinyl, and wireless rears via MusicCast Surround are possible.

Straight talk – what you need to know

Like the RX-V6A, the TSR-700 only amplifies seven channels – 5.1.4 with four height channels isn't possible internally, and the pre-outs are limited to front/zone. Here too, only three of the seven HDMI inputs are fully 8K/4K-120-capable. The chassis is plainer than the RX-V6A's, but the technology is practically the same. If you want four height channels and genuine upgradability, look to the Aventage series. For most living-room cinemas, the TSR-700 is a fair complete package.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the TSR-700 and the RX-V6A?

The two are technically nearly identical: 7.2 channels, 100 W, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, same HDMI and streaming features. The RX-V6A has a more upscale glass front, the TSR-700 a plainer chassis.

Does the TSR-700 support Dolby Atmos?

Yes. With seven channels you can run a 5.1.2 Atmos setup with two height speakers; DTS:X is also decoded. Without height speakers, Dolby Atmos height virtualization helps.

Can I connect a turntable?

Yes, via the built-in MM phono input. You connect turntables with a moving-magnet cartridge directly, without a separate phono preamp.

Why buy the TSR-700 at HD Zürisee?

Because we'll work out with you whether seven channels are enough for your home cinema or you should plan straight toward the AVENTAGE series. Our specialist team listens themselves to find which speaker combination suits the TSR-700, and continues to support you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil after your purchase too.
