Yamaha A-S1200 – purely analog High-End integrated amplifier
The A-S1200 marks the start of Yamaha's High-End amplifier class: an uncompromisingly analog integrated amplifier in classic design with illuminated level meters, wood side panels and technology inherited from the A-S2200 and A-S3200. No DAC, no streaming – just music in its purest form.
Sound & amplification
2× 90 W into 8 ohms (0.07% THD), 2× 150 W into 4 ohms, with a high damping factor (≥ 250) for firm control over the bass. At its heart are a large 625 VA toroidal transformer and the "Floating Balanced" output stage topology, in which both signal halves work symmetrically with matched MOSFETs. The "Mechanical Ground" concept couples the transformer, heatsink and capacitors directly to the chassis, keeping vibration out of the sound.
Connections & controls
MM/MC phono input for high-quality turntables, several line RCA inputs (one of them as a Main-In feeding directly into the output stage), a Pre-Out and two pairs of brass speaker terminals (A/B, bi-wire capable). The illuminated level meters can be switched between VU and power display and dimmed. Headphone output on the front.
Straight talk – what you should know
The A-S1200 is deliberately analog: no DAC, no streaming, no network function. Importantly – unlike the larger A-S2200, the A-S1200 has no balanced XLR inputs; all inputs are unbalanced (RCA). The "Floating Balanced" circuitry concerns the output stage, not the inputs. If you want to make full use of a balanced source (e.g. a DAC with XLR), you should go for the A-S2200 instead.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Yamaha A-S1200 have XLR inputs?
No. The A-S1200 is built purely unbalanced (RCA). Balanced XLR inputs are only available from the A-S2200 upward.
Does the A-S1200 have a DAC or streaming?
No. It's a purely analog amplifier with no DAC, network or Bluetooth. You connect digital sources via an external DAC.
Does the A-S1200 support MM and MC cartridges?
Yes. The phono input is designed for moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges and is switchable.
What's the difference between the A-S1200 and the A-S2200?
The A-S2200 is fully balanced throughout and additionally has an XLR input and a discrete headphone amplifier. The A-S1200 shares the output stage technology and level meters but is unbalanced (RCA).
Why buy the A-S1200 at HD Zürisee?
Because we've been working with High-End amplifiers since 1997 and know exactly which speakers thrive with a purely analog device like the A-S1200. We'll also clarify the distinction from the balanced A-S2200 and continue to deliver, advise and support you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.
