The Atoll MS120 is a compact network streamer with a D/A converter and its own volume control that plays music from the network, from USB, and from digital sources.

32 centimetres wide, three kilograms – and still a device with a full-grown feature set. The MS120 is Atoll's answer to the question of what happens when there's no rack, but there is ambition.

Why the MS120?

Because it leaves nothing out despite its small size. A Burr-Brown PCM1796 converts up to 24-bit/192 kHz including DSD, volume is controlled in the analogue domain via switched resistors – and can be switched off when a full amplifier sits behind it. Two separate transformers supply the digital and analogue sections. A 5-inch colour display shows cover art and track titles, even from two metres away.

What you get

Streaming without gaps: Qobuz, Tidal with Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Deezer, HighResAudio, around 100,000 internet radio stations via Airable, plus Roon Ready and UPnP/DLNA for the home network. Four S/PDIF inputs and three USB-A ports accept a TV, CD transport, sticks, and hard drives. Bluetooth 4.2 is on board for quick use.

Who is the MS120 suited for?

For second systems, home offices, and any room where a 44-centimetre-wide device simply has no space. Together with the Atoll MA100 it becomes a fully-fledged small system. In plain terms: AirPlay isn't documented – if you rely on it, the ST200 Signature is the better choice. There's no XLR output, and it can't do phono. And if you want full resolution in a large living room, the full-format streamers serve you better.

Our verdict

The MS120 is one of those insider tips that really isn't one any more. stereoplay gave it 88 out of 100 points in issue 1/2021, with a "very good" price-performance verdict. Michael Lavorgna wrote on 22 January 2026 on Twittering Machines that it was "a product I recommend without reservation for anyone shopping in this ballpark or the greater surrounding area" – and called it "a true hifi bargain". Frequently asked questions

Can the Atoll MS120 drive a power amplifier directly?
Yes. The MS120 controls volume in the analogue domain via switched resistors and outputs up to 2.8 volts. Together with the Atoll MA100, that makes a complete system in two small chassis. The control can be switched off when a full amplifier sits behind it.

Is the Atoll MS120 Roon Ready?
Yes, since a software update the MS120 is officially Roon Ready. Add to that Tidal with Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz, Deezer, HighResAudio, around 100,000 internet radio stations, and UPnP/DLNA for your own collection on the home network.

Does the Atoll MS120 have AirPlay?
No, AirPlay isn't documented for the MS120 – unlike the larger Signature streamers. From an iPhone you reach the device via Bluetooth 4.2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, or UPnP. We'll show you which route runs most stably for you.

Can I connect headphones to the MS120?
Yes, there's a 3.5 mm jack on the front. It isn't listed in the official datasheet, but it's there in practice and confirmed by several reviews. For demanding headphones, a dedicated headphone amp is still worthwhile.

Why buy the Atoll MS120 at HD Zürisee?
Because a streamer is only enjoyable once the network and app run cleanly. We integrate it into your home network, set up services and your library, and show you how to use it. Installation and service are handled by our own technician.
