Collection: EMT

EMT has been building cartridges since 1938 for people who take a groove seriously. The names come from broadcasting: cartridges like the TSD, TMD and TND were developed for studio turntables, where a recording had to sit right on the first pass. Today EMT still manufactures in Switzerland – with the same dimensions, the same connections and the same stubbornness about quality.

Which EMT cartridge suits you?

  • HSD series – MC cartridges in the classic half-inch, bolt-on format. The HSD 006 for rigid turntables, the HSD SC6 for suspended subchassis turntables.
  • JSD series – the reference class: Novel Gold with a gold coil, Novel Titan with a silver coil in a DLC-coated titanium housing, Pure Black with a copper coil.
  • Cartridge capsules – systems in an EMT housing that slide into the tonearm instead of being bolted on. TSD SFL and TSD SPH for stereo, TMD 015 and TMD 025 as true mono systems, TND 065 for 78rpm shellac records.
  • Stylus guards – the matching protective cap for HSD and JSD systems.

Why the advice here makes the difference

A cartridge is not a device you unpack and switch on. Tonearm mass, compliance, tracking force, load impedance and the diamond's stylus profile all have to match your turntable and your record collection – otherwise you're giving away exactly what you paid for. We work through the resonance frequency with you, match the right stylus profile to your collection, and mount it properly. Our technician Mauri handles installation and alignment on request.

An EMT cartridge needs a clean phono preamp and a turntable that's up to the task – take a look at our turntables and turntable accessories. You'll find more cartridges from other manufacturers under Cartridges, and the whole analogue range under All Vinyl.
