vincent-cd-s7-dac-roehren-cd-player-schwarz
Vincent CD-S7 DAC Tube CD Player Black

The Vincent CD-S7 DAC is a hybrid CD player with a full-fledged D/A converter that plays back CDs and external digital sources through a tube output stage.

The abbreviation DAC says it all: the CD-S7 doesn't just play your discs, it also accepts TVs, streamers or computers and refines them with the same tube sound. A CD player that also wants to be the digital heart of your system.

Why the CD-S7 DAC?

After conversion via the Burr-Brown PCM1796 chip, no fewer than four tubes take over the analogue section: two 6922, one 12AX7 and one 6Z4. They give the sound warmth and body without smoothing over the fine detail. The analogue section works fully balanced, and output is via XLR or RCA, whichever you prefer – the cleaner solution for longer cable runs and balanced amplifiers.

What you get

Three devices in one housing: CD player, DAC and headphone connection. Via USB, optical and coaxial, you route external sources through the converter and tube stage – the USB input accepts high-resolution files up to 24-bit / 192 kHz (WAV, FLAC, APE and more). A headphone output (6.3 mm) sits at the front, for focused sessions without the big system. Honestly: a CD player rarely gets more versatile than this.

Who is the CD-S7 DAC suited for?

For anyone who takes a large CD collection seriously and also wants a high-quality digital hub with a USB DAC – including headphone use. Honestly: if you stream exclusively and never insert a CD, a pure network streamer is the more affordable route. The CD-S7 DAC doesn't come with any streaming services of its own; it converts whatever you feed it – but does so at a high level.

Our verdict

The CD-S7 DAC is the bigger, more versatile tube solution in the Vincent CD range: four tubes, a full-fledged USB DAC and a headphone output in one substantial housing. If you want CD, PC audio and headphones under one roof, this is spot on. Not sure whether it suits your amplifier? Via USB, optical and coaxial, it accepts external sources such as TVs, streamers or computers and converts them through the Burr-Brown PCM1796 – the signal then runs through the same tube output stage as your CDs. That makes it the central digital source of your system.

What resolution does the USB input accept?
Up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. That lets you play high-resolution files like WAV or FLAC directly from your computer, refined by the tube stage. For the vast majority of music libraries, that's more than enough headroom.

Does the CD-S7 DAC have a headphone output?
Yes, a 6.3 mm headphone output sits at the front. That lets you listen with focus, quietly, without switching on the big system. A handy extra rarely found on a CD player.

How many tubes are in the CD-S7 DAC?
Four: two 6922, one 12AX7 and one 6Z4. They work in the signal path of the analogue section and give the sound its typical Vincent warmth. Since they're not in the power stage, they last a very long time, but they're still wear parts.

Why buy the Vincent CD-S7 DAC from HD Zürisee?
Because we tell you whether it suits your system and your usage profile.
