The Classic 98 drives its 10" driver (coated paper cone), down-firing, with 300 watts of Class D power, delivering warm, expressive bass with a natural attack.

What you hear

The Classic 98 blends unobtrusively into the sound picture: warm, contoured bass for music of all kinds, without the boomy character of some pure home-cinema subwoofers. Visually, too, it comes across more as a piece of furniture than a piece of equipment.

Who is the REL Classic 98 suited for?

The Classic 98 suits anyone who wants deep bass in a classically or elegantly furnished living room without giving up a furniture-like look. Honestly: anyone chasing maximum cinema level or wall mounting is better served by the HT or Planar Series – the Classic Series is built for living-room integration and musicality.

Our verdict

The REL Classic 98 proves that looks and deep bass don't have to be a contradiction. One of the most honest recommendations for anyone looking for an "invisible" subwoofer in the best sense.

Technical data

Design: 10" driver (coated paper cone), down-firing

Amplifier power: 300 watts (Class D)

Frequency response: from approx. 27 Hz

Dimensions: 47 × 35 × 30 cm (H×W×D)

Weight: approx. 18.1 kg

Inputs: Neutrik Speakon (high-level, 10 m cable), RCA (line-level + LFE)

Wireless option: REL HT-Air or AirShip II (both available separately)

Finish: Walnut veneer

Frequently asked questions

What colours is the REL Classic 98 available in?
The Classic 98/99 is made exclusively in natural walnut veneer – that's part of this series' concept as a furniture-like, unobtrusive subwoofer.

Does the Classic 98 also suit modern interiors?
The warm walnut veneer suits many interior styles, from classic to modern-warm.
