regaplanar6gr
Rega Planar 6 Turntable, Black

The Rega Planar 6 is an upper-mid-range manual belt-drive turntable with a hand-built RB330 tonearm, an ultra-lightweight Tancast plinth and an external Neo MK2 power supply.

Rega pursues a single goal with it: tracking your records as accurately as possible within this class. No display, no app, no frills – just engineering that audibly does something. Here in matte black with a gloss black edge.

Why the Planar 6?

The heart of the turntable is the ultra-lightweight plinth made from a Tancast-8 foam core sandwiched between two rigid HPL laminates – a material borrowed from aerospace. Less mass means less stored energy, and so less coloration. Rega deliberately turns the old "heavier is better" idea on its head, and says so outright. Add to that the double-brace technology between the tonearm base and bearing housing, a double-layer float glass platter, and a hand-matched 24-volt synchronous motor paired with its Neo power supply.

What you'll hear

Timing. The Planar 6 locks onto a track's rhythm and doesn't let go. Bass lines are cleanly defined, the soundstage stays calm and organised, and fine dynamics come through effortlessly. This isn't a warm, flattering colourist – it's an honest tracker that shows you exactly what's really in the groove.

Who is the Planar 6 for? (and who it isn't – straight talk)

Ideal for anyone who wants a turntable for the next decade and is ready to invest in a good cartridge. The RB330 carries everything from the Nd5 up to the Apheta with ease – you can upgrade later without changing the turntable. Straight talk: the Planar 6 comes without a cartridge and without a built-in phono stage. Without both, it won't play a single note. If you want a complete unbox-and-go package, you're better served by a Planar 1 Plus – if you want that last bit of sound quality, build your dream setup here.

Our verdict

The Planar 6 is where things get properly serious on the Rega ladder: it inherits technology from the flagship P8 and P10 and delivers sound that has nothing to fear from turntables costing considerably more. Honestly – most collections simply don't need more turntable than this.

Technical specifications

Drive: belt drive with 24V synchronous motor (hand-selected)

Tonearm: hand-built Rega RB330 with stainless steel counterweight

Power supply: Neo MK2 (external), electronic speed switching 33⅓ / 45 rpm + fine adjustment

Platter: double-layer float glass platter

Plinth: Tancast-8 foam core with HPL laminate

Cartridge: none included (choose freely, e.g. Rega Nd5/Nd7/Ania)

Drive belt: EBLT

Connection: RCA, Rega phono cable

Finish: black (matte, with gloss edge)

Dimensions (W × H × D, lid closed): 447 × 120 × 360 mm

Weight: 5.2 kg

Warranty: 2 years

What's included: turntable with RB330 tonearm, Neo MK2 power supply, double-layer glass platter, EBLT belt, dust cover (without cartridge)

Frequently asked questions

Does the Rega Planar 6 come with a cartridge?

No. The Planar 6 is deliberately supplied without a cartridge so you can choose freely. Popular choices are the Rega Nd5 or Nd7 (MM) as well as Ania or Ania Pro (MC). On request, we'll fit and align the cartridge fully ready to play.

Do I need a phono preamp?

Yes. The Planar 6 has no built-in phono stage. You need either an amplifier with a phono input or a separate phono preamp such as the Rega Fono MM or Fono MC – depending on whether your cartridge is MM or MC.

What does the external Neo MK2 power supply do?

The Neo MK2 drives the motor cleanly, switches electronically between 33 and 45 rpm, and allows fine speed adjustment. This keeps speed stability steady and keeps vibration away from the turntable – an audible difference compared with cheaper Regas.

How does the Planar 6 differ from the Planar 3?

The Planar 6 brings the lighter Tancast plinth, the finer RB330 and the external Neo power supply. Sonically that means more calm, more precision and more headroom – a clear step up, not just a minor update.

Why buy the Rega Planar 6 at HD Zürisee?

Because we don't just sell turntables, we set them up: the right cartridge, precise fitting and alignment, matched to your amplifier and room.
