regand9
Rega ND9 MM Cartridge

The Rega ND9 is Rega's flagship cartridge in the moving-magnet range, bringing a level of detail resolution to the MM input – via a boron cantilever and Fine Line diamond – that's usually reserved for expensive MC cartridges. Reference-level engineering for anyone who wants the maximum without switching their whole chain to MC.

Why the ND9?

Because it pushes MM technology consistently to its limit. The ultra-rigid boron cantilever transmits even the finest groove impulses without loss, the Fine Line bare diamond with its tiny contact radius reads layers out of the groove that coarser cuts simply miss, and the powerful N55 neodymium magnet delivers dynamics and width. Hand-built, with Rega's 3-point fixing for exact mounting on Rega tonearms.

What you'll hear

Precision without mercy. The ND9 traces lightning-fast and cleanly, separates voices and instruments clearly and opens a wide, stable soundstage. It doesn't flatter anything: a good pressing sounds breathtaking, a poor one sounds exactly like that too. That's precisely what makes it a tool for listeners who want the truth on the record.

Who is the ND9 for? (and who it isn't – straight talk)

For owners of a good turntable (such as a Planar 6, 8 or 10) who want MC-level performance on the MM input and want to keep their MM-capable phono path. Straight talk: if you want a forgiving upgrade for scratched flea-market records, this isn't it – the ND9 is a precision tool, not a softener. For casual background listening, other cartridges are a better fit.

Our verdict

The ND9 is the crowning achievement of Rega's MM range – hand-built, uncompromising, and an upgrade that feels like a whole new system in your living room. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we fit and align it properly, so the precision actually reaches the record.

Technical specifications

Type: hand-built stereo MM cartridge (moving magnet)

Stylus cut: Fine Line bare diamond

Cantilever: boron rod

Magnet: neodymium N55

Output voltage: 5–6 mV

Recommended tracking force: 1.75 g

Body: glass-fibre reinforced PPS

Fixing: Rega 3-point system (½-inch compatible)

What's included: Rega ND9 cartridge, three stainless steel mounting screws, Allen key

Frequently asked questions

Does the ND9 also fit non-Rega tonearms?

Yes, provided the tonearm has a ½-inch fixing. The 3-point system is optimised for Rega arms (no extra alignment needed there), but it can also be mounted the classic way with two screws on other arms. We're happy to handle the mounting for you.

What happens once the stylus wears out?

Rega offers a fair exchange system: since the stylus is permanently fixed for maximum rigidity, you bring the cartridge back to us and receive a fully refurbished unit at a reduced price, with a new cantilever, diamond and damping – more sustainable and better than a cheap replacement stylus.

Do I need a special phono stage for the ND9?

No. The ND9 is an MM cartridge and runs on any MM phono input or MM phono stage, such as the Rega Fono MM. No expensive MC step-up transformer needed – that's exactly the appeal: MC-like resolution on a familiar MM input.

Why buy the Rega ND9 at HD Zürisee?

Because a cartridge in this class demands precise mounting and alignment. We fit it properly, adjust tracking force and anti-skate, and handle the warranty cleanly as an authorized dealer.
