The nude spherical stylus is forgiving when it comes to alignment.

What you'll hear

The familiar, punchy SPU sound with warm mids and rich bass, in a housing format that fits lighter to medium-mass tonearms better than the classic SPU-G models.

Who is the SPU Classic N for?

For anyone who wants the SPU sound but has a lighter or medium-mass universal tonearm. Straight talk: without the SPU-N adapter, the Classic N can't be mounted – factor that into the purchase. If you want more resolution, go for the elliptical version, the Classic N E.

Our verdict

The SPU character for tonearms that don't get along with the heavy G models – same sound, less weight, but an adapter is mandatory.

Technical specifications

Type: MC cartridge without housing, requires SPU-N adapter

Stylus tip: Nude Spherical, R 18 µm

Output voltage (1 kHz, 5 cm/s): 0.2 mV

Internal impedance (DC): 2 ohms

Recommended load impedance: 10 ohms

Channel separation (1 kHz): 20 dB

Stylus compliance (dynamic, lateral): 8 µm/mN

Frequency response: 20–20,000 Hz (±3 dB)

Tracking force: 4.0 g (3.0–5.0 g)

Tracking angle: 20°

Coil wire: OFC (oxygen-free copper)

Weight: 13 g (without adapter)

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a special adapter for the Classic N?

Yes, the SPU-N adapter, for the mechanical mount and the SME/bayonet connection.
