If you already own an OM body, a simple stylus swap takes you noticeably further, without needing to realign.

What you'll hear

Clearer and more open than its spherical sibling, with finer treble resolution and more stable imaging in the stereo picture. For music lovers who want the next audible step without blowing the budget.

Who it's for (straight talk)

Ideal as an upgrade path within the OM series, or as a solid first purchase for anyone who wants the elliptical stylus from the start. If you're after high-end, look toward the 2M or SPU series.

Our verdict

The OM 5E proves that a small stylus difference can sound big – an honest value tip straight from Ortofon.

Technical specifications

Principle: Moving Magnet (MM)

Output voltage: 4 mV (1 kHz, 5 cm/s)

Channel separation: 22 dB (1 kHz)

Channel balance: 2 dB (1 kHz)

Frequency response: 20–20,000 Hz, +3/-3 dB

Stylus tip: elliptical, r/R 8/18 µm

Recommended tracking force: 1.8 g

Internal resistance: 750 ohms

Inductance: 450 mH

Recommended load resistance: 47 kOhm

Recommended load capacitance: 200–500 pF

Weight: 5 g (with counterweight) / 2.5 g (without)

Replacement stylus: Stylus 5E

Mount: universal (1/2" standard)

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference to the OM 5S?
The 5E has an elliptical instead of a spherical stylus – giving more contact area with the groove and finer detail resolution, especially in the treble.

Can I put an OM 5S stylus onto an OM 5E body?
Yes, the body is identical across the OM series – you can switch between stylus variants at any time.

Does the OM 5E fit my turntable model?
It fits any tonearm with a 1/2" universal headshell.
