moon761northcollection
MOON 761 Stereo Power Amplifier North Collection

The MOON 761 is a stereo power amplifier from the North Collection that combines 200 watts per channel with Simaudio's low-distortion MDCA circuit.

Hand-built in Canada, it turns the word "power amp" into a charming understatement: it delivers power, control and calm – so your speakers finally do what you bought them for.

Why the MOON 761?

Because its job isn't "loud" but "control". The true dual-mono construction separates the left and right channels right down to the power supply, and the MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier (MDCA) corrects distortion outside the actual signal path. The result is a power amp that doesn't break a sweat on dynamic peaks – and simply stays silent through quiet passages. Via MOONLink it integrates cleanly into an existing MOON system.

What you hear

Bass that stays deep and defined instead of booming. A soundstage that opens up in width and depth, because crosstalk practically disappears. And above all: no strain. With a damping factor of 800, the 761 takes the speaker firmly by the hand – even when the music suddenly wants everything at once. Neutral, fast and assured, without the typical hardness in the treble.

Who is the MOON 761 for? (and who is it not for – honest take)

Ideal for anyone who already has a preamplifier – or is adding the matching MOON 791 – and wants to drive demanding floorstanding or compact speakers without compromise. It's an endgame purchase for the next ten, fifteen years.

Honest take: if you're looking for a ready-made all-in-one box with built-in streaming, this isn't it – the 761 is deliberately just a power amp. In that case, an integrated amplifier such as the MOON 641 is worth a look. And if you're running small bookshelf speakers in a 12-square-metre room, the 761 buys you more headroom than the room will ever call for.

Our verdict

One of the most honest power amps in its class: plenty of power, but no noise – instead calm, control and long-term assurance. If you want to properly future-proof your system once and for all, the 761 is a foundation that will probably outlast you.

What the trade press says: StereoNET Applause Award for the 791 + 761 combination – "…it's a bargain even at its elevated price." (StereoNET, 2023).

Technical data

Output power (stereo, 8 Ω): 200 W per channel

Output power (stereo, 4 Ω): 400 W per channel

Output power (mono, 8 Ω): 600 W

Circuit design: Dual-Mono, MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier (MDCA)

Inputs: 1× XLR (balanced), 1× RCA, switchable stereo/mono

Input sensitivity: 1.1 V

Input impedance: 47 kΩ

Gain: 31 dB

Frequency response: 2 Hz – 100 kHz (+0 dB / –3 dB)

Signal-to-noise ratio: 117 dB

Distortion + noise (THD+N @ 200 W): 0.001 %

Damping factor: 800

Crosstalk: –116 dB

System integration: MOONLink

Dimensions (W × H × D): 48.1 × 14 × 44.5 cm

Weight: 36 kg

What's included: MOON 761 stereo power amplifier, power cable, manual

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the MOON 761 have?
200 watts per channel into 8 Ω and 400 watts into 4 Ω, and 600 watts in bridged mono operation. That lets it effortlessly drive even power-hungry, impedance-critical speakers – the headroom is there for control rather than sheer volume.

Do I need a preamplifier for the MOON 761?
Yes. The 761 is a pure power amp and needs a source with volume control ahead of it. The MOON 791 from the same North Collection is a perfect match; in principle any preamplifier with RCA or XLR output will work.

Is the 761 suited to hard-to-drive speakers?
Yes, that's exactly what it's made for. The high damping factor of 800 and the dual-mono construction give the speaker tight control – especially with large floorstanders with demanding impedance, the bass stays precise rather than loose.

What warranty does the MOON 761 come with?
As an authorised dealer, we offer five years' warranty on MOON devices. We handle service and repair through our own technician and the Swiss distributor – no detours.

Why buy the MOON 761 at HD Zürisee?
Because we know the North Collection and which speakers and preamps really let it shine.
