leica-cine-play-1-beamer
Leica Cine Play 1 – Premium 4K Laser Home Cinema Projector

The Leica Cine Play 1 is a 4K UHD laser home cinema projector with a triple RGB laser light source and Leica Summicron optics, delivering up to 3,000 ANSI lumens and image sizes up to 300 inches.

Why a Leica projector and not just any 4K projector? Because it carries the same optical signature Leica has been perfecting in camera lenses for over a hundred years. The Summicron lens is no marketing sticker, but the same lens philosophy photographers have been buying cameras for over decades – now for your home cinema. The aluminium housing with glass front and the Bauhaus-inspired look make sure it cuts a fine figure in your living room even when switched off.

What you see

With up to 3,000 lumens in Ultra mode and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG, the Cine Play 1 draws a strong, rich picture even in daylight – up to 300 inches wide, if your living room plays along. Two built-in 10-watt speakers with DTS Virtual:X provide a solid foundation; for a true cinema feel we still recommend a soundbar or a surround setup (see “Goes well with”).

Setup is pleasantly unspectacular: the projector aligns the image automatically and focuses by itself – vertically up to 40°, horizontally with a swivel range of up to 23°. And if you game, you'll appreciate a latency of under 12 milliseconds at 1080p and 120 Hz in gaming mode.

Who it's for (plain talk)

The Cine Play 1 is for anyone who wants a big home cinema picture – with noticeably more brightness and sharpness than the compact Cine Compact 1, but also more weight (6.7 kg) and more demands on the room. HDMI, USB and LAN connections make it the hub for your console, Blu-ray player and external drives. Plain talk: thanks to automatic alignment and autofocus, the Cine Play 1 quickly finds its picture in the garden or another room too – but if you plan to carry it around regularly, the lighter Cine Compact 1 (4.4 kg) is the better fit. The Cine Play 1 rewards a permanent spot.

Our verdict

For us at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, the Cine Play 1 is what happens when a camera maker refuses to compromise on optics in home cinema. The picture looks noticeably calmer and more natural than on many consumer projectors in this price range – honestly, you rarely see that in a living-room projector right away.

Questions about the best placement, the right screen or how it works with your AV receiver? In return, it is heavier at 6.7 kg and better suited to a permanent spot, although thanks to automatic alignment it can also be used flexibly around the house or in the garden.

Do I absolutely need a screen?

No, you can also project straight onto a bright, smooth wall. For maximum colour accuracy, contrast and an even picture across the full size, however, we recommend a high-quality projector screen with this projector – we are happy to advise you in person.

Is a stand included in the box?

No, the Cine Play 1 is delivered without a stand. The matching Leica Floor Stand 1 is available separately: it places the projector freely in the room at a height of around 66 cm, and power runs through pin contacts in the base – with no visible cable on the projector.

Which connections does the Cine Play 1 have?

The Cine Play 1 offers HDMI, USB and LAN connections and can also be connected to a smartphone, laptop or tablet via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Apple AirPlay. This lets you connect consoles, Blu-ray players, external drives and mobile devices directly.

Can I use the power supply of the Cine Play 1 for the Cine Compact 1?

No, absolutely not. The power supplies of both Leica projectors have the same plug and fit the same Floor Stand 1, but deliver different currents. Always use only the power supply that came with your projector – a swapped power supply can damage the projector. If in doubt, talk to us.

What warranty applies to the Leica Cine Play 1 in Switzerland?

The Leica Cine Play 1 comes with a 3-year warranty in Switzerland.
