eversolo-play-cd-edition-streaming-verstaerker
Eversolo Play CD Edition Streaming Amplifier

The Eversolo Play CD Edition is a streaming amplifier with a built-in CD drive, AKM DAC and Class-D output stage: it plays network music, streaming services and CDs and drives your speakers directly.

Besides the streamer and the amplifier, the CD Edition reads discs through a built-in drive and can also rip them.

Why the Play CD Edition?

Because you get everything in one device: streamer, DAC, amplifier and CD drive. The AKM AK4493SEQ handles the conversion, and the output stage delivers 60 watts into 8 ohms and 110 watts into 4 ohms. You connect your speakers and you are done. On top of that come a phono input for MM and MC, HDMI ARC for your TV, a subwoofer output and Bluetooth 5.0.

What you hear

According to the data sheet, distortion is below 0.0037 % and the signal-to-noise ratio is above 109 dB. That points to a clean signal path. Room correction, a 15-band graphic equaliser and a 10-band parametric equaliser help you adapt the sound to your room.

Who is the Play CD Edition for?

For anyone who wants to listen to streaming and CDs with one device and two speakers. Plainly put: a headphone output is not listed in the data sheet, and 60 watts per channel suits small to medium-sized rooms. If you do not need a drive, you save money with the Play.

Our verdict

The Play CD Edition turns a few ingredients into a complete system. If you want to cover CDs, streaming and TV sound with one device, this is a coherent package. We are happy to advise you at HD Zürisee on suitable speakers.

Technical data

Device type: Streaming amplifier with CD drive

DAC: AKM AK4493SEQ

Amplifier: Class D, 60 W into 8 Ω, 110 W into 4 Ω

Distortion (THD): < 0.0037 % (20 Hz–20 kHz, 5 W at 1 kHz)

Signal-to-noise ratio: > 109 dB (A-weighted)

Drive: CD drive (Hitachi-LG), CD ripping

Inputs: 2 × USB 3.0, HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, RCA (line, max. 2 Vrms), phono MM/MC, LAN, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 (AAC, SBC), trigger

Outputs: Speaker terminals, subwoofer (crossover frequency 40–500 Hz), coaxial, USB audio

Output level: Speaker output with built-in amplifier; volume via rotary control on the unit

Headphone output: not specified – not listed in the data sheet

Formats: via the USB output PCM up to 768 kHz/32 bit and native DSD512

Streaming: Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect Lossless (from firmware V1.5.60), DLNA

Display: 5.5-inch touchscreen

Memory: 4 GB DDR4, 32 GB eMMC

Dimensions (W × H × D): 230 × 75 × 230 mm

Weight: 2.9 kg

Included: Play CD Edition, power cable, user manual

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the Eversolo Play CD Edition have?

The Class-D output stage delivers 60 watts into 8 ohms and 110 watts into 4 ohms. That is enough for small and medium-sized rooms with bookshelf or small floorstanding speakers. For large, power-hungry speakers, a separate power amplifier is recommended.

Which connections does the Play CD Edition offer?

You get two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, RCA line, phono MM/MC, LAN and WiFi, plus Bluetooth. There are outputs for speakers, subwoofer, coaxial and USB. This lets you connect a TV, a turntable and a subwoofer.

Can I connect a turntable to the Play CD Edition?

Yes, a phono input for MM and MC cartridges is built in. So you do not need a separate phono stage. We are happy to work out with you which setting suits your cartridge.

Does the Play CD Edition have a headphone output?

The importer's data sheet does not list a headphone output. For headphones, we recommend the Eversolo DAC-Z10 as a complement.

Why buy the Eversolo Play CD Edition at HD Zürisee?

Because we tell you which speakers suit a device like this and which do not.
